Mourners of the Dead Gods

When Poy was torn asunder and the oceans boiled away, the gods that once walked aside the races disappeared. Powerful clerics and religious leaders felt their power diminishing. Prayers were no longer garnered firm responses, but instead vague feelings. Visitations and commandants were replaced with signs and portents.   The Mourners believe that the gods died, the Star of Iridium their grave-marker. They say the power the divine now wield the inspiration they feel are but echos of a dying gasps. They firmly believe they are on their own with no divine powers to guide or punish them.   The followers of this faith (or lack of) are not hostile towards the religious, but rather pitying or contemptuous. They see the faith of others as a mental illness or delusion. They may try to reason with a follower if they sense doubt or uncertainty. If confronted, most resort to expressions of sadness and even when violently attacked will express regret while countering. Part of their 'proof' of the Dead Gods is the ability of members of it's order to channel divine energies. Indiviuals called Lessons (as in "Lesson Smith" or "Lesson Jones") claim to channel the same dying echos that clerics and other divine casters use.   With no divine to set out the rules, the Mourners established their own codes: a mix of fuedlism, fascism, and monarchy.   The three tenets of the Mourners are: The Hawk and the Hare: States that the weak are tools of the strong, as the hare is food for the hawk. The Queen and the Hive: States that the weak can only survive as followers of the strong, as the bees in a Hive can only survive by belonging to Queen's Hive. The Wolf and the Worg: States that those who leave the fold cannot re-enter, as a wolf who mates with a worg will never be allowed to return to the pack.   Most organizations of Mourners tend to have authoritairan leaders and tend towards heriditary rule. A common mistake when encountering Mourners is confusing their definition of Strong vs Weak as it's not always about combat prowess, intelligence, or other common measures.
