In the year 2242, Dhrakstone the Bold spent untold wealth designing and building the first vehicle to plunge the depths of The Expanse, the vast pool of energy that stretched between the continents. The volaticus powered airship, christened the EverBold, had been crafted with the finest materials and to the artificer's exacting specification. On a calm day in Cordelia, the ship with it's elite crew lifted off from Dhrakstone's manor near the shear and headed along the coast of the Bay of Rheal. It sailed over the town of Windthrown where the locals had proclaimed a holiday and the ship had dipped low enough to pick up several offerings of the mead the town was famous for.
An hour before sundown, the ship crossed the shear. Dhrakstone ordered the hatches dogged and the EverBold made it's mark in history by embarking on the most successful dive into the expanse. Watchers on the edge of the shear say it lasted almost a half hour before being torn to shreds by the whirling vortex of energies. To date, only the ship's bell has ever been recovered and no vessel has ever beaten it's record.

There are four continents that make up the world of Poy. Four landmasses the support the bulk of the world's population. They are, in the order 'discovered':
- Poi
- Gibralterya
- Afeal
- Jarlia
In some, less imaginative, dimensions they would be separated by vast seas filled with monsters. Not in Poy. Here, the continents are suspended by colossal flows of raw magical energy. This, as any sage of Poy would tell you, is the normal and proper way.
This leaves the space between full of energy, an area called The Expanse. This chaotic and uncontrolled energy will not support a normal ship or sailor. Instead the limited travel that exists between distant lands is accomplished by the use of magical portals that instantly bridge the gap.
For those who cannot afford, or are not permitted the use of, such portals there are the Airships. Large vessels crafted using volaticus, a rare ore formed by the very same energy. These massive vessles crawl across the gap, carrying large loads and passengers alike.
