Dead Eye
The Dead Eye existed in the human realms east of the Krisna for several decades. An assassin group with a specialisation in killing mages, they were known for their skills and high payments demanded for executing a contract. Later on, the group became the foundation of Emperor Jaymond's Justice of the Emperor.
History
The first mention of the Dead Eye is dated back to the late eighth century AE. At that time, human lands on the East of the Krisna were ruled by the Five Great Kingdoms and several smaller countries. And while nobles of all realms were fighting each other, both between and within kingdoms, they did not always fight fairly.
A noble in a mail armour was a tough target to kill on the battlefield, and the noble codex demanded those captured be let free for a ransom. A dispute could last for generations with both sides unable to kill the other. Of course, going against the codex was always an option, and many opted for it, but it was a risky step to take. Thus, the job of an assassin was in high demand these days. However, there was one problem.
The noble codex also forbade to use offensive magic in battle, but an assassination attempt is no battle. Rich nobles would often, though far from always, train to use at least basic levels of magic for self-defence and to provide assistance to their armies such as communication spells. That all complicated the work of a common assassin and raised the contract price of a certain mercenary group.
The group was called the Dead Eye. While not strong in numbers nor magic, with few if any magic items at their disposal, they had a surprisingly long list of eliminated nobles and a reputation of experienced mage slayers. Many were willing to pay the Dead Eye a fortune, to get rid of the rivals that were refusing to die otherwise.
One of the nobles that were especially actively paying the Dead Eye at the beginning of the ninth century AE was King Jaymond of Lleira, not directly of course. Ruler of the strongest out of all Five Great Kingdoms, he managed to conquer significant parts of its neighbours' lands, with many new nobles to keep an eye on.
Disbandment
The cooperation between the Dead Eye and King Jaymond reached its highest in 811 AE when the latter forced all other realms to bow their heads and acknowledge his supreme rule as first Emperor of All Humans. Since that moment, the Dead Eye became essentially the emperor's personal team of assassins, their hands full of jobs and gold paid for them.
Shortly after, the group agreed to the emperor's proposal and became the organisation known as the Justice of the Emperor, first manifesting itself in 815 AE. While their official and main activity was overseeing the order and bringing the emperor's justice upon those who have wronged the law, they continued to kill mages for him as well.
