Flying Fortress of Lead Glass

A masterpiece of magic and architecture, home to such wise and kind creatures... All destroyed in a matter of hours.
— Dwarven tale
About three thousands years ago, when the dwarfs have already secured their place in this world with the support of the elves, a strange flying fortress has shown up near one of their settlements. It was made out of pure glass and inhabited by strange bird-like sentient creatures. Some of them soon visited the dwarfs and were very friendly, and they offered the dwarf king friendship and trade.   Both cities blossomed in the following years. The race of the Flying City, as dwarves called it, taught them a lot about magic and magic runes, specifically about those related to the sky. The dwarfs, on the other hand, brought their new friends a lot of useful things and taught them all about the metals and, of course, ale. This ideal lasted until a caravan of wood elves came to the city one day.   Elves would rarely come to trade with the dwarfs, preferring to live in the solitude of their small forest kingdoms. This time, they came looking for an unusually big deal of metal instruments. The prosperous state of the dwarven city was easily visible, and its reason was no secret from their former allies. The elves made the deal in unusual haste, paying a high price for it, and left the city.
Well, the saying that you should never trust an elf does not exist for no reason.
— Human historian
When the Glass Fortress showed up again and stopped close to the city, the city watch has spotted a big group of armed wood elves, and it was only getting bigger. What seemed to be a scouting party turned out to be an army. Once the elves advanced on the city, some dwarfs used their newly acquired magic to try and warn the people of the Flying Fortress, but they did not have enough time.   The unimaginably beautiful city, one of the most beautiful things that anyone has ever seen in this world which seemed to be made wholly from a single piece of perfect lead glass, was attacked and crashed to pieces; and all those who lived in it, along with those dwarfs who tried to protect their new friends and allies, lied dead by the hands of the elves.   After that, the remaining dwarfs cursed the whole of elvenkind and especially the wood elves, naming them traitors and murderers and demanding answers; yet, they got none. From what was seen during the battle and the hate that those elves have shown, the race inhabiting the Glass Fortress was probably their longtime enemies of some sort. It is still unknown whether this city was unique or merely the last one left. No one has ever seen a flying city made out of glass since then, and its short and sad story sowed hostility between many elves and dwarfs for millennia to come.
