Headmaster

The Headmaster of the Imperial Academy, an enormous organisation including both educational and scientific parts, is the one in charge of it, at least formally. In truth, most of the things in the Academy are decided on smaller levels. The headmaster nowadays is mostly the symbol of Academy, often having enough time to teach students. Even for his direct responsibilities such as finances and foreign relations, Headmasters tend to have professionals in their service ready to offer any advice required.

Qualifications

A candidate to the position of Headmaster must have a title of full Academician, awarded for academic achievements only, and diploma for at least two different sciences, such as maths, medicine and so on, for one of which they must be an active full professor.

Requirements

The minimum age for applying to the position of the Headmaster is 40 years old.

Appointment

The candidates from the list are voted for by the Curators, leaders of each branch of science, such as golemancy, herbalism and so on. There are several dozens of curators in the Academy, only growing as time passes. The vote happens in several rounds. Each Curator can vote for as many candidates as he wants in any given round, and those with the smallest amount of votes or with no votes are removed from the list, and the election proceeds to the next round. That way, the result is supposed to be satisfying for the highest amount of people, usually resulting in quite conservative headmasters.

Responsibilities

Initially, Headmasters had a lot more responsibilities and were, essentially, administrators. However, with the establishment of the vertical of power in the Academy, most of their duties were passed down the hierarchy to the people in place.
Nowadays, Headmaster's job mostly consists of making diplomatic and trade decisions and distributing resources among different sciences and education. The Headmaster is also the one representing the Academy on any official events.

Benefits

The position of Headmaster provides its holder with a moderate increase in one's salary and pension. Headmasters also receive a lot of respect from both civilians and their colleagues, and their portraits of them are put on a special wall in the headmaster's office along with those of the predecessors.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Headmaster can only be removed if he or she was accused of breaking the Academy's laws or science ethics, and it would still require at least half of the total Curators' votes to do so.
