Lord Kensington Rules for Skill Challenges

This is a houserule for skill challenges in 4e used by a podcast called "critical hit". They have gained a fair amount of popularity, and so we are going to try using them in 5e. Like all house rules, this is subject to tweaking/removal if it does not work out well.   The Lord Kensington Rules for Skill Challenges are:   ROLL INITIATIVE!
  • Accrue a number of successes equal to party members +3 to win
  • Accrue 3 failures to lose
  • You can’t roll the same skill twice in a row.
  • You can’t roll the same skill someone immediately preceding you in initiative just rolled.
  • Creative uses of skills are encouraged, but not uses that horn in on other skills.
  • Final decision as to whether a description of a skill works (and whether a roll can be attempted at all) lies with the GM.
  • Consuming spell slots grants advantage to a check, but still require a skill check be made
