The Hanging Tree

The Hanging Tree was a tree located in Bytopia. It was also the Avatar of the The Age of Rebellion. It had been a symbol of rebellion since before the beginning of written history. The exact details are fuzzy, but it is believed that The tree was seen as a symbol of rebellion because it was often used to hang those who had violated the laws passed down by MIelikki, the goddess of forests, who was one of the rulers in Bytopia. Legend has it that the people of Bytopia were the first to rise up in protest due to some sort of disagreement with the local ruler. Sources are wildly inconsistent regarding the exact nature of this disagreement.   It is also the name of a widely known Kenku folk song. The Kenku during the The Age of Rebellion had not yet been robbed of their wings and voices, and they were well known for traversing the planes and sharing stories. The hanging tree was always a popular favorite, and every Kenku bard knew how to sing it.     Are you, are you Coming to the tree They strung up a man They say who murdered three. Strange things did happen here No stranger would it be If we met at midnight In the hanging tree.   Are you, are you Coming to the tree Where the dead man called out For his love to flee. Strange things did happen here No stranger would it be If we met at midnight In the hanging tree.   Are you, are you Coming to the tree Where I told you to run So we'd both be free. Strange things did happen here No stranger would it be If we met at midnight In the hanging tree.   Are you, are you Coming to the tree Wear a necklace of hope Side by side with me. Strange things did happen here No stranger would it be If we met at midnight In the hanging tree.   Are you, are you Coming to the tree Where I told you to run So we'd both be free.
