Vigrid - Offscreen Combat Resolution Rules
For combat between two teams in Vigrid that occurs off-screen, the following rules apply:
- Every group is given a maximum "power rating" that represents their effectiveness in combat. Groups begin at their maximum
- Off-screen combat is resolved as individual matches between groups, and takes place over multiple rounds
- For off-screen combat that coincides with on-screen combat, each off-screen round is one on-screen round
- Each round, first both parties roll 1d20 to see who goes first. Reroll ties
- both teams damage each other using damage rolls. Choose the damage roll used for combat based on the total maximum power rating combined between both parties, based on the following table:
combined power rating | damage roll |
150+ | 2d20 |
100-149 | 2d10 |
50-99 | 2d10 |
25-49 | 2d8 |
< 25 | 2d6 |
- When either group's power rating hits 0, combat ends. The loser may be incapacitated or killed, at the discretion of the victor.
- When a group takes damage, it also suffers fatigue. Some groups suffer more fatigue than others, using multipliers set by the DM. Always round down to the nearest whole number. Example fatigue multipliers are shown below:
fatigue rate | multiplier |
none | 0 |
low | 0.25 |
normal | 0.5 |
high | 0.85 |
- These multipliers are because some groups tire out more easily than others. For example, a group composed entirely of wizards will quickly begin to run out of spell slots during intense combat. Meanwhile a group composed entirely of fighters has relatively fewer resources to manage and will therefore better handle repeated combats.
- On a short rest, the group's power rating is restored to their power rating minus their fatigue points. For example, a group with a maximum power rating of 30 and 5 fatigue becomes power rating 25.
- On a long rest rest, the group's power rating returns to maximum
- If a short or long rest is surprisingly interrupted, the group that got interrupted does gain the benefits of that rest. If a long rest got interrupted at least one hour after it started, they may take the benefits of a short rest.
