McOlor
McOlor technology utilises mesmerising geometries that shift through alien spectrums to induce behavioural responses. The resulting transmissions are powerfully hypnotic, effective even in peripheral vision where they can significantly influence traffic flow and ambient aggression levels. Direct eye contact with a McOlor screen induces an immediate and dramatic emotional response in most Specimens. Prolonged exposure saturates the viewer in subtle frequencies that embed latent responses to stimulus, often employed to correct brand loyalty and antisocial behaviour. Cases of frequency overexposure due to screen and transmitter malfunction are common, resulting in temporary to permanent blindness and psychosis.
Filters are available which scatter the patterns into harmless light, others which translate their intent into linguistic forms. These can be incorporated into goggles, helmet visors and windscreens however this application is more heavily restricted than the technology itself.
Utility
McOlor screens are commonly embedded in GigaCity advertising hoardings, broadcasting transmissions amidst the constant bombardment of product and indoctrination. Withdrawal effects from advertising campaigns are used to force consumption surges, allowing corps to develop product ranges with confidence.
Large McOlor multi-screens are incorporated into Grid nodes, ensuring compatible behaviour near these valuable assets.
In problematic sectors, massed screens and transmission towers turn the skyline into a shimmering matrix of mind controlling patterns.
McOlor technology is most prevalent in the OuterBelts where its effects are markedly greater. InnerBelt and Core Dwellers tend to be more readily influenced by Hive based mechanisms.
Despite its efficacy, McOlor technology is notoriously temperamental with dead and glitchy screens being common place (see Block404). McOlor screens seal their delicate and restricted components within an impregnable casing, often as part of a free standing armoured frame containing an independent power supply for tactical deployment.
A notable capability of McOlor technology is the Medusa effect, where bursts of high frequency pattern rapidly reduce the viewer to a prone state, mindlessly drooling and staring at the screen. Sustained pulses can result in fatal brain trauma. Screens deployed in volatile environments can be tuned to transmit the Medusa effect as a defence measure against theft and vandalism. Compact McOlor screens incorporated into vehicle combat systems are popular with NoBloods who use rear mounted units to distract tail gaters.
Despite the risks and severe penalties for tampering with McOlor screens and transmitters, they are constantly hacked by NonComps to broadcast rogue moods and behaviours that fuel their numinous agendas.
McOlor tech is expertly repurposed by OutSide ravers to produce spectacular mind-altering visuals capable of inducing states of transcendent bliss. A feature at unsanctioned Unvironment parties, hacked McOlor screens bathe crowds in shimmering vortices of exquisite light and colour. These visuals can become rapidly addictive and even slight filter discrepancies can cause massive neurological trauma. Ravers are typically blamed for any errors, due to them targeting McOlor Screens for components.
The disruptive potential of McOlor technologies has long been recognised by Syntient Management. Syntients frequently infiltrate rival GigaCities with propaganda transmissions causing civil unrest and economic chaos.
Access & Availability
McOlor theory is a heavily restricted science employed by Syntient Management for the optimisation of consumer performance, perception correction, and general GigaCitizen conditioning.
