Session 98: A Titanic Pet
General Summary
The session began as the party were in the middle of solving puzzles in a dungeon south of Mount Othrys that was guarded and hidden by the Titans. They were able to solve the puzzle with decent pace and did the next very swiftly, unlocking the door where the gate to Cathrys awaited them. In addition to the gate at the far end of the cavern, a twelve-headed Dodecahydra guarded the gate, joined by three returned who aided the hydra in battle.

Round 1
Kajafas marks the hydra but misses his follow-up. HERO is struck by one of the returned and retaliates by entering rage and grappling them. Crystal goes into melee with the hydra and attempts to petrify it, but fails. Brew also engages the hydra in melee. Baradin damages all enemies using Channel Divinity: Radiance of the Dawn. The hydra strikes at Brew, Crystal, and HERO. Ugis attempts to cast Banishment one of the returned and the hydra, but they both resist.Round 2
Kajafas sets up Vigilus, a crossbow-turret and fires it at the hydra. HERO pushes the grappled returned into melee with Brew and Bobo, allowing them both to strike the returned. One of the returned badly injures Crystal, but Baradin negates a Critical hit. Crystal strikes back at the returned, damaging it greatly and moves away from the hydra but is attacked while doing so. The third returned then engages Crystal and strikes her unconcious. Brew focuses on attacking the prone returned next to them, using Action Surge to guarantee the takedown. Baradin casts Heal to bring Crystal back up and then engages the hydra in melee. The hydra attacks Baradin, Brew, Bobo, and HERO. Ugis casts Reverse Gravity, causing the hydra to fall prone on the ceiling and Vigilus to break and remain on the ceiling.Round 3
HERO attacks one of the returned and pushes it prone away from Crystal. The other returned disengages and creates a Fog Cloud around the two remaining returned. Crystal enters the cloud and strikes down one of the returned. Brew attacks the hydra, managing to sever one head from its body. Baradin casts Mass Cure Wounds to restore the stamina of his allies. The hydra is unable to stand up on the ceiling and attack.Round 4
HERO attacks and pushes the last returned into the reach of Brew, Bobo, and Crystal, allowing them all to strike at the prone returned. The returned then strikes at Brew and Bobo in return before being taken down by Brew who then engages the hydra in melee. The hydra then retaliates by attacking Brew and Bobo, managing knock them both unconcious, also causing them to fall down and take a failed death save. Crystal begins to make her way past the hydra, into the reversed gravity zone and observing the gate.Round 5
Cademon summons his wildfire spirit and uses it to teleport Brew and Bobo out of danger. Baradin then uses Channel Divinity: Preserve Life to restore them to conciousness. The hydra then strikes at the only target in range: Baradin and only succeeds at hitting him once. Crystal investigates the gate and realizes it likely requires eight severed hydra heads to be opened. This causes some distress as the party were trying to not kill the hydra, but need to damage it to sever heads and it was already badly injured. Ugis then manages to sever another hydra head.Round 6
Kajafas severs another of the hydra heads. Cademon uses a Grasping Vine to bring Crystal outside of the hydras range and to safety. Baradin casts Holy Aura to protect himself and the others. The hydra then attempts to attack Baradin unsuccessfully due to the aura and Baradin's high AC combined with the Shield spell. Ugis severs another head.Round 7
Kajafas severs another hydra head. Baradin uses Channel Divinity: Preserve Life once more to heal Brew, Bobo, HERO and the hydra. The hydra once more attempts to attack Baradin and fails to do so. Crystal strikes the hydra, managing to sever two heads on the same turn. Ugis ends the gravitic field and severes another head using Magic Missiles. Brew and Bobo combine to sever another hydra head and knocking the hydra unconcious.Round 8
Everyone runs towards the gate, gathering the heads near it. The hydra regenerates four more heads and regains conciousness.Round 9
The gate is opened and everyone begins running into the pool of blood that was formed on it. HERO pushes the hydra back to allow the others more time, but the hydra manages to catch up to them and unleases a final barrage of 21 attacks against Baradin, Brew, Bobo, HERO, and Kajafas.Round 10
The final members of the group jump into the gate, leaving the hydra behind, now with nine more heads than before.Some fun statistics
