Willow'Wisp
A type of boreal tree that exists on the island of Takjub. The tree grows peculiar fruits that glow in the night, making them excellent to use as street illumination.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The shoots are yellowish-brown, with small buds. The leaves are alternate and spirally arranged, narrow, light green, 4–16 cm (1.6–6.3 in) long and 0.5–2 cm (0.2–0.8 in) broad, with finely serrate margins and long acuminate tips; they turn a gold-yellow in autumn.
The fruits are small spheres of whitish paper-like material held by a thin thread from the branch. The sphere has several holes from which the air passes through the center. In the center is a small seed, which radiates light in shifting coloration from orange to light blue to magenta. The wind that passes through the center of the fruit picks up small parts of the inner seed, which is how new trees start to grow.
Ecology and Habitats
The trees prefer wetter climates with rainy periods. Can be found in jungles and near the coastline of the island.
