New Prime City Defenders #1 - Prelude to Zorn

General Summary

An otherwise quiet day in Prime city turn wild when the Power Plant, HQ of the Prime City Defenders is suddenly attacked by a force of purple-skinned soldiers, wielding highly technological weapons. The attackers do not get the time to continue their destruction for long as the Red Thunder leaps into the scene.

The hero starts throwing punches and the soldiers fall one after another. The enemy soldiers take to the sky to surround the superpowered do-gooder when the Stardust Legionnaire arrives on scene to blast them away. The remaining soldiers throws themselves at Thunder and explodes, screaming “FOR ZORN!” as they die.

Suddenly a duo wearing what looks to be high-ranking uniforms teleports in front of the Power Plant. A grey skinned brute and a cybernetic commander of some sort. The pair introduces themselves as Battle-master Varrick and General Karnex, soldiers of the intergalactic Zorn Empire. Varrick charges into Red Thunder and starts chopping away with his flaming blade. Their battle sends them into the Power Plant damaging the already worn-out building further.

Karnex spars off with the Legionnaire, taunting her while seemingly dodging her attacks with little effort. He tells the Legionnaire that it is the Zorn Empire that is behind the destruction of her home planet, Theron.

Meanwhile, the battle between Varrick and Red Thunder rages on in the background, wrecking the battleground in the process. Eventually Red Thunder manages to pile-drive Varrick into the ground, knocking him out cold.

Karnex tells the Legionnaire that he grows bored of this “scouting mission” and opens a portal to leave, but not before sending a message to Varrick. As the unconscious Varrick hears the message, he wakes to life while his entire body transforms. He grows larger and red. A surprised Red Thunder is suddenly slammed into the Power Plant and Varrick begins to pursue him with a raging fury. As the fight rages on, Stardust joins the fray and tries to come up with a plan while Red Thunder keeps the brute occupied. She manages to find a device that should knock Varrick down if she can hit him with it.

The heroic duo sets their plan into motion. Red Thunder manages to wrestle Varrick to the ground and Legionnaire gets a clean shot with her device. Varrick grows weak and reverts to his previous form.

The day is saved.

But General Karnex and the Zorn Empire will return.
