Balasar Drako

Balasar Drako

Born in the back swamps, Balasar is the youngest of 14. While in his youth, his father, Dulin Drako, died in a tragic "swamp accident". Swallowed whole by a Naga…yea, poor ol' Dulin wasn’t the brightest. However, that never got Balasar down, as the youngest, he always saw his family as the most important thing in the world. He would often go to ridiculous ends just to make them smile. This would also often result in quite a few bumps and bruises. However as is with life, the older Balasar got, the more each day blurred into another, and so on. He found himself, working for the general store in town, to help his mother and siblings. When Balasar's mother, Yula, passed. He felt as though he should be more saddened by it. But rather he did his best to look on the brighter side, she no longer had to endure pain or feel sadness herself. Balasar would miss her, but in truth, she was with Dulin now, and that thought made him happy. The days trudged onward, one after another, this went on for a few months. Until one day, after coming home from work Balasar took notice of the empty house in which he stood. A place that once radiated with loud noises, and the smell of home-cooked meals, now devoid of all character. Now that his mother passed away, and his siblings had gone away (whether most of them were alive or dead, he was unsure). Balasar decided to strike out on his own, to start his journey.   On the first leg of his journey, within the first month, he ran into a strange-looking Lizardfolk, by the name Old Yung Cletus. A very strange man indeed, but with an instrument, that, no pun intended, plucked at the strings of Balasar's very soul. He asked Cletus to instruct him in the ways of the instrument. Cletus was stubborn at first and protested, but after 2 weeks of Balasar hanging out around his cabin, regardless of the numerous threats, from either beasts or Cletus himself, Balasar would not leave. And so Cletus gave in to the young Dragonborn's pleading. But only under the circumstance that he pull his weight by bringing in the "cheddar" as Cletus called it. Cletus, gave Balasar an old Banjo, told him that he would start with that, and move on as he learned more. Balasar was not particularly good at the start but after a few more weeks, he learned the basics, as well as a few interesting ways to play the instrument.   While traveling on the road, between Cletus' cabin and the nearby tavern, where he earned his keep, there was an anomaly, the dirt beneath Balasar's feet began to shift, and turn from its solid state to a more mud-like substance, he quickly began to sink into the dirt, and before he could so much as even utter a cry for help, he was pulled beneath the earth, and taken somewhere new. When he had the awareness, that he was not dead, he quickly realized he was merely in a dark room, and not alone. There in the dark stood a strange man who spoke in broken common, a bird creature-man-thing, a small Duergar, and another Dragonborn, though this one did not have a tail. Balasar was unsure why they were there, but figured he would find out soon enough...

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Built like a strength contest competitor. A bit of pudge around his waist, with shoulders as wide as a bridge.

Body Features

Unlike others of his race, Balasar has a tail. As well as tendrils that hang off the back of his head, looking like deep red hair.

Apparel & Accessories

Adorned in Studded Leather, with his Stake Spear attached to his back, Balasar is battle-ready.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born to a large family, that he loved quite dearly, Balasar puts a heavy emphasis on loyalty to those close to him. And in his time entertaining as a Bard, there has been no shortage of people who have given him shelter, food, and care that fall under that umbrella. But if you betray his trust, and his loyalty, he's is not so quick to forgive.

Education

Raised in the swamps, and his greatest idol, was a man so dumb, he went toe-to-toe with a Spirit Naga. Needless to day, there was little to no "edumacation" in Balasar's home town.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Uke Drako - Big Brother; Oldest Brother. Separated when Uke left when Balasar was young, but recently reconnected in light of recent events.

Some might say hick, and others say he's just a good ol' boy, but in truth, he's just Balasar...

My New Promise

Lots of highs and lows today, saved the children, accidentally killed the Kuo'Toa (who were innocent, kinda?). Killed Chum, nearly died. And finally, the cherry on this fucked up cupcake, found out about the devils in Sydrithorpe, only to find out Uke ain't Uke.   Apparently, Uke made a deal with Azzalog, which cost him his life too. And now, Burnsy is on the back burner of my shit-list, and Azzalog is in the hot-seat now. I will save my brother's soul if I can, I don't expect to bring him back, but at the very least I want him to rest in peace, and not pain. I'm makin' this promise to you now Uke, I will save your soul from this piece of shit.   I'm coming for you Azzalog, and sooner or later, I'll cut ya down. Until next time, keep on keepin on...   -Balasar Drako

Another One Bites the Dust

Finally, felt like we were in that cavern for a while, not gonna lie. But we saved what children we could, accidentally slew some Kua'Toa (not proud of that in hindsight). AND, WE KILLED A GOD...kinda. But I don't know, a part of me thinks that it was... too easy, like the stories I used to hear from old Yung Cletus never went down like this. There was always some kinda backlash, something more, a detail the heroes missed that led to their demise. On another topic, we lost Hegel, pretty sure he got sucked up into that bottle he was carryin' around, but nobody knows where it rolled off to. Really not sure how to process that one...   Anywho, I'm sure we'll find some other nefarious plot brewin', more than likely by Azzalog, or that bastard Burnsy. But for tonight, we act like true dragons, with no remorse for the food on the table, and sleep like we won't wake up for 100 years. Until my next entry, keep on keepin' on.   -Balsar Drako

Just Another Day Pt. 2

Finally made it back around to the library after fighting some more Kuo'Toa. Found what I believe are some of the children. Waitin in the fountain chamber now for the water door to open with the tide. This obsession Hegel has with that bottle though, and the man inside it concerns me. He went on his own to retrieve the try-dent and is now talking to the bottle. I'm worried for these kids, they seem like they've been through a lot, and I'm not leavin 'em alone if I can help it. But I'm also not leaving here until I know all the kids are saved and safe, and if we have to fight more Kuo'Toa to do so, I'm all for a good scrap. Until my next entry, keep on keepin on.   -Balasar Drako

Just Another Day...

Back to the grind, and another day in the fray... so, sitting on a ship in a bottle (not a metaphor) is weird, even more so when the seagulls in the air ain't movin. I don't trust this Teltas guy, pretty sure he's somes sorts of Eldritch... thingy, and I ain't givin him that try-dent til I trust him more. On a different note, I gotta be honest, I think if we don't come together, and work as a team proper, that we'll see the next sunrise. And I'd really like to see my brother, and my home again. Also, I still got a debt to repay to Burnsy, slippery lil' bastard (pardon my language). So come time we wake up, Im really gonna bear down on the team, but still givin 'em each the respect they've earned and deserve. Hope this all goes well, so I can keep on writin. Til next time, keep on keepin' on.   -Balasar Drako
