Nulthraxus
Nulthraxus (aka Nul, aka The Gloam Tyrant) is the name of the black dragon that resides in the Gravelmire, an expansive salt marsh that dominates a large portion of the Faldon peninsula along the eastern edge of the continent of Antoroch. Two centuries ago, the Faldon Empire controlled the peninsula and its surrounding islands. Nulthraxus was once merely a nuisance to the empire who narrowly escaped their wrath on several occasions. Overtime, his brood grew to considering size after taking in several powerful consorts. The foolish Queen Yasper III, pressured by those antagonized by the dragon in the town and villages the dotted the peninsula, mounted a military effort to exterminate Nulthraxus and his brood, but made the mistake of attacking during the Stirring Tide, making the salt marsh particularly difficult to traverse for the Faldon armies. This allowed the Nulthraxian brood to use the environment to their advantage and make quick work of the Faldon forces seeking to reclaim the land from the dragon. Nulthraxus wiped out the bulk of Faldon's infantry and quickly sacked the castle in Yasperia, the capital city of the empire. The survivors of the massacre fled to the Faldon islands. United by their shared tragedy, they amassed a sizable naval fleet that protects the island from any further Nulthraxian encroachment.
Nulthraxus now controls a draconian empire of his own that has spread throughout the Gravelmire. Nul currently has three consorts who provide him with the means to expand his ever growing brood.
Naxine – An asura who produces magically gifted dragonoids
Drisvyre – A black dragonborn that produces powerful dragonkin.
Jewel – A djinni that produces drakes.
Brood hierarchy:
Dragon – Leader of the brood
Dragonoid – These creatures have four legs and two arms and are most often the size of a large horse. They serve as military strategists for troops of dragonkin or keepers of powerful magicks who maintain the hoard's treasures. They feature the scales of their dragon parentage and can have a formidable breath weapon.
Drake – These massive creatures have two legs and a pair of winged arms that provide them with flight. They serve as a mode of transportation for others in their brood and as living aerial siege weapons. They feature the scales of their dragon parentage and their devastating breath weapons are the most powerful of their kin.
Dragonkin – These creatures are humanoid is shape, with two arms and two legs and a pair of wings on their back. They stand between 8 and 12 feet tall. They serve as grunts and soldiers and wield deadly martial weapons against their enemies. Their wings offer them flight in a limited capacity. They feature the scales of their dragon parentage and can occasionally produce a breath weapon.
Dragonborn – These humanoids' ancestors bore witness to the birth or death of a true dragon; an event so rare and momentous that it alters the genealogical makeup of any sentient creature that lacks resolve to reject the gift/curse in the vicinity. They are not inherently tied to the dragon and operate independently and by their own volition. However, some do find greater purpose in serving a dragon of similar color. They feature the scales of the dragon that altered their ancestors and some can produce a breath weapon.
Kobold – These diminutive humanoids are the ultimate posers. They instinctively seek out the most powerful creature in a given area and serve as their underlings. Over time, they take on the appearance of their masters as a way of displaying fealty and flattery. They perform the busy work of their masters that is too lowly for those that carry the dragon's blood in their veins. Their relationship is a symbiotic one in that their master provides protection and sustenance, while the kobolds provide the labor to keep their master's operations running smoothly.
