Sidrithorpe

A city with humble beginnings has recently become too big for its beaches. More people, more problems.

Sidrithorpe

Founding

Sidrithorpe was founded by hunters and fishermen; worshipers of Feolhimn and Gulungin. They naturally gathered around the mouth of the Illtides River. The low cliffs along the shore offered a strategic, defensive advantage against any seafaring raiders. Settlers would frequently trade with their elven neighbors to the west in the Foxmask Forest and their dwarven neighbors to the east in Kantor. The establishment of the Tradesmoot Hall in Sidrithorpe offered a midpoint for neighboring cultures to gather and exchange goods. It also foreshadowed the growth of Sidrithorpe into a major trading hub for many nations divided by the seas that surround the island of Kantorga.

Annexation

Following the Great Upheaval, Sidrithorpe became the largest port city with easy access to the sea. However, the humble settlement lacked a governing body, and with the increased presence in travelling merchants and migrants seeking opportunity, crime ran rampant as miscreants could easily blend into the crowds of new and unfamiliar faces without the fear of apprehension or punishment. The Kingdom of Palure saw the island as a strategic military location due to it's proximity to Umbershock, the last known whereabouts of their King, Agum Latimer. Palure swiftly dispatched 100 soldiers and a handful of noble figures to bring a semblance of stability to the booming city. Medias Estruscilla, the second cousin of Prince Autar Latimer, was established as the Viscount to rule and govern Sidrithorpe. With Medias in charge and surrounded by competent advisors, crime rates within the city walls dropped as the population continued to increase beyond expectations. The city planners contracted by the throne did not compensate for the waves of migrants seeking new lease on life to continue to flood into the city. Shortly after completion, the limitations of space were felt within the city's walls and large portion of the poorer populace began to spill out of the Mud Gate and set up tabernacle and tents to form what is now known as the Barnacles.

Recent Events

  • As the population continues to grow, many citizens have become desperate to carve out a niche for themselves or their family in Sidrithorpe. The collective desperation has attracted a legion of pact devils more than willing to offer supernatural aid to weak-willed mortals in exchange for their immortal souls.
  • The Kuo-Toa that live in the waters off the coast of Kantorga south of Sidrithorpe have recently been forcibly displaced from their ancestral breeding/hunting grounds. Because of this, Kuo-Toa have been spotted kidnapping children from Sidrithorpe at night. The Merfolk that also make their homes in the seas south of Kantorga have been victims of mistaken identity as the ire-driven fishermen of Sidrithorpe turn their harpoons on them in acts of vengeance when they're spotted during fishing excursions.
