Polished Obsidian Glass

Obsidian glass is a common jewel used by spell casters as well as thieves. Usually they originate from Wuurthac´s great obsidian mines and are exported into every corner of the Velodan Empire.
While the great war of Nival raged, many glasses had been shipped to Vandaryen in order to expose hostile spies or magic traps used by Neonoron war casters. Before this, obsidan glasses were more like a "secret tip" between insiders but through the war nore and more had been manufactured.

Manufacturing process

The manufacturing of the glasses are highly secret and there are even too much variations since usual magician as well as es thieves modify them. However, it is believed that the standard procedure lasts atleast a week.

Significance

Obsidian glass is pretty practical for magician and thieves. In one way or another they use it the same way.

Magician

Magicians and other spell casters are using polished obsidian glass as an catalyst for spells or rituals. Moreover they are able to read ancient runes with it.
Some shamans applied these glasses by healing rituals because they believed it would show the evil spirits who caused the sickness.

Thieves

As mentioned before, people are able to read ancient or even hidden runes by looking through an obsidian glass. Especially thieves use unique modifieded to decipher certain enigmas e.g. symbols who mark a possible looting point.
Furthermore, they are able to detect magic traps or auras.
