The mines of Mar

Where the Lorys rioted

Once there was a village located in the swamps of Mar. Without any disharmony the dwellers lived happy secluded from the rest rapidly developing society. No one had to live in poverty because of the great mines within the swamp. Of cource, linving in the swamps was tough but all dwellers got used to it. It was sad normality that miners died or children got lost. Fortunately, both happened very rarely and so they lived happily even after.
No one saw it coming. It happend rapidly and without any warning. First all birds silenced. Then more and more children vanished in the swamps. At the same time terrible accidents happend in the mines. More and more people were found lacerated close to the mines. Some one or some what had had entrenched itself in the tunnels. Brave men tried to found out what happend in the mines but were never seen again. With growing danger and anxiety the villagers asked their lord for help. Quickly he responded and sent his most capable knights. Those knights were terrified how anxious the villagers, especially their childen, were.
So the knights made an oath that they would not return from the mines until the threat was over. Filled with courage the knights went down in the mines. All of a sudden the bestial shadows were never seen again. Birds chirped again in the woods. The swamps around the village were save again. But unfortunately everything has it's price. The group of knights who entered the mines were never seen again. One suspected that they took the monsters with them to the grave.
Afterwards many poeple claimed to had witness ghosts within the swamps and miners spoke of swords clinking deep underground. Some said that those where the kinghts spirits guarding them. Other believed that they were restles souls and that the thread was not over...

Summary

The mines of Mar was most famous myth about Lory, one of the bestial creatures regarding black magic. The story is about an small villages which is terrorized by monsters. To get rid of them the lord sent a group of knights. Those knights went down the mine tunnels and were never seen again. But all of sudden the monster were vanished too.

Historical Basis

It was verified that there existed a small village within the swamps of Mar. Furthermore there really were terrible attacks through animal-like beings and vanished children. No one can really say if those monsters were really Lory. This could have atleast explained why so many children disappeared because Lory could only be summoned through human tributes - children. Moreover striking teeths and claws were found in the miner´s corpses which were similiar to theirs.
