Ortved

A Rhandi settlement near to the Northern edge of the Everice, Ortved is one of the leaders among the Northern Fjords. Rhandi from all directions perform pilgrimages to it, and many set out on expeditions into the cursed snowstorms to the South for Glory and riches.

Government

Ortved is led by a council of Elders, where all the wisdom of the Rhandi people stems from. Those residents that reach the age of seventy-seven all automatically join into the council. This has been so since time immemorial, and the young have complained about it for as long a time. Thus, there is a group of motivated younger folk who deal in smaller matters such as minor disputes and manners that require travel, leaving more important things to the elders.

Industry & Trade

The town survives off of hunting and trading pelts other animal products, but it thrives on the fertile ground it lives on where they can grow grains and other crops for exporting to more Northern Rhandi villages who aren't able to sustain as much agricultural product. Pilgrims bring in gifts for the Winter Gods, but also provide services to the settlement as part of their stay, and those among them of a heroic nature join in journeys into the Everice, this tourism drives the rest of the economy of Ortved.

History

The Mintwine ritual did not originate in Ortved yet continues the most often within it, with many foreign children coming to it to partake of it here and leave for back home newly minted adults. The group which had the fully joint dream had lived in a settlement farther to the South, and led their people to the spot where Ortved would be built and set the first stones of the town hall themselves. A monument to their memory, showing a boat rising from rough waters carved in stone, rises in the centre square in front of the town hall.
