Spiritual Spider Silk
Producer
This silk is produced by a newly discovered species of spider, Hexnileae Salixie, endemic to the Baxaldie region. The spider itself is a sizeable creature which lives around the river banks where a great deal of Willow trees grow. These trees house entire colonies; a tunnel of webs is connects them up in the canopies. Living near the running water, the pescatarian spiders were observed to tether themselves by the river bank before diving in to catch fish.
Native Uses
Being a rather recent discovery, the only documented use of this material is by the Forest Dwellers of Baxaldie. The threads are used to connect different materials - usually boulders and pieces of recently fell trees - together to construct a makeshift golem. Thanks to the silk's magical conductivity and its propensity to retain enchantments, it turns the silk into a great battery for spells. Together with its tensile nature, it becomes an ingenious solution to create autonomous guardians. The ritual to animate the golems is unknown but it is no simple spell.
Being one with nature, the silk is requested by the Dwellers and the spiders provide. In return, the Dwellers help propagate the Willow trees along the river and ensure the saplings mature. This gives the spiders a chance to increase in numbers.
Alternative Applications
The material is very difficult to get a hold of, however understanding it can boost the efficiency of medicine and scrolls. It is surmised that bandages from this silk can boost the healing and physical capabilities of an individual - it comes down to the spell embedded in the threads. A scroll embroidered with this silk would increase the magical capacity and durability, allowing it to carry more powerful spells.
