The United States had it especially tough however as both the President and Vice President perished at the hand of the virus. The speaker of the house was sworn in quickly however they were of the opposite party, many Americans were not happy about this turn of events to put it lightly. This all the while that millions were still enraged about the pandemic restrictions, then mutants started appearing splitting the country down the line as to what to do with them. Tensions were at an all time high, the country was on the Verge of disaster. Then after a series of news reports of mutants committing crimes with their powered and the police being powerless to stop them the federal government passed the Mutant Containment Act. It established a registry of all mutants as well as their families who were suspected of being at risk of mutation, and the imprisonment of particularly dangerous mutants regardless of the lack of any wrongdoing. Enforcement was to be handled by leading private police supplier as well as technology conglomerate Kasma Corporation. This bill was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back, California, Texas, Michigan and New England all declared these new laws illegal and refused to enforce them. The federal government deemed these to be acts of Rebellion and ordered the arrest of their respective governors, when the states refused the demand it was official, the second American Civil War had begun. Taking advantage of the opportunity the south east of the country declared independence taking up the Confederate States name due to the pandemic restrictions and overall cultural differences that separated them from the rest of the country that had only grown wider in the previous few decades. It in response to the chaos of the war as well as the fact that the government was still reeling from the virus and that the new president was deeply disliked among most of the country the Military declared martial law to restore order and being a swift end to the Civil War. Lastly while most people were busy being worried about mutants several Native American tribes in the northwestern United States and Canada saw this as their opportunity, while the country broke out into war they began using their new powers to fight against overwhelming odds. And so it was that there was a four way war between the United States federal government, the states that stood against the Mutant Containment Act, the Native American tribes in the northwest and the newly reformed Confederate States.
