Outpost Brenner

Outpost Brenner is a forward observation base for the Queendom of the Sun. It was named for Captain Oscar Brenner of the Knight Order of the Rose, where he made a defiant last stand against a horde of Corrupt and Undead creatures. After the Rose Knights reclaimed their lost camp, it was renamed "Outpost Brenner", and it grew from a small trading post to a large town in its own right.   Merchant and supply caravans make regular trips to this highly reinforced and defensible location, and the fortifications allow the Outpost to command a large stretch of the badlands that comprise the majority of this region. To the east is the long and perilous trail leading to Hammetra's Garden, and to the west are the more fertile and agreeable lands of the Queendom.   The importance of this outpost is manyfold, as it provides protection from weather and attacks from the Undead and the Corrupt. It's the last stop inside civilization for many long journeys eastward, and often, the final resting ground for those unfortunate enough to be caught in the wilds after dark or in the many storms that plague the arid region.

Demographics

70% Human, 29% Dragoon, 1% other   Humans are the primary race in the Queendom, while Neo-Dragoon survivors and their descendants make up the minority of the peoples of the Queendom. This area of the population sees more Dragoons than might be found in another settlement of this type, given the harsh climates and tough lifestyle of the Outpost, which Dragoons typically excel within. Within the Queendom, rank is what denotes wealth and class, but at Outpost Brenner, all citizens are met as brothers-and-sisters-in-arms. Without cooperation, there cannot be survival in the face such a difficult environment.

Government

Knight Orders military base, with civilian organizations, such as the Salvage Unions, Mage Tower and Mercenary League forming a council of leadership that help to maintain a balance of order and flexibility for the people who live there. The Queendom's laws apply here, but only extend about as far as their patrols are able to physically reach.

Infrastructure

Outpost Bulwark: A large wall comprised of composite alloys salvaged from the Megaplex Ruins, the "Bulwark of Wolves" stands as a stark monument to the heroism that prevented the Outpost from being lost entirely to the Corruption that plagues the world. IT's entirely functional as the primary defense system that surrounds the settlement.   Shield Tower: A generator for the energy barrier that surrounds the Outpost and the surrounding area out to almost 100 miles, normal undead and Corrupt are prevented from passing through this area. It does not yet have the capability of identifying friend from foe, like the one's at the capital can, but it works well enough to stop small Incursions or undead swarms.   Gearbox Foundry, Local 433: Built by the Salvage Unions member group, Gearbox Machinery and Salvage, this factory is the primary workshop and warehouse for all successful Union digs and recovery operations. It's the only foundry in the Outpost, a fact that it is quick to remind competitors that establish non-union shops or services within the Outpost as they exact a heavy fee for use of their equipment or storage. A harsh but fair business that nonetheless breeds resentment among certain groups.   Trading Post: Once a small affair with modest offerings, the Trading Post has ballooned with the amount of industry that has filtered out to this settlement. All the conveniences and services that the Queendom enjoys can be found at this large and constantly changing bazaar. Union and non-union independents all compete openly for business from travelers and adventurers, which only serves to strengthen the economic power of this otherwise remote locale.

History

Since the Outpost relies heavily on daily supply runs, monsters and raiders have started to flock to the main road leading in from the Queendom. Generally, all they can mange to do is harass the caravans, since they're typically accompanied by an attachment of fresh troops to man the defenses and rotate out with those weary of the frontier. Recently, the weather and the boldness of aggressors have been escalating at a disturbingly rapid rate, with sandstorms and lighting storms plaguing the area far more than usual. It also seems that elementals have started to mingle with the usual Undead and Corrupt, and raiders seem to have a supernatural ability to synchronize with weather patterns.   The last caravan sent to supply the Outpost was overrun, and not a single Knight has been seen. Simultaneously, rumors of "unseen attackers" have began to filter in the modest population of the Outpost. Even the Salvage Union has reported diggers and scrappers to be missing in action...

Geography

Outpost Brenner is saddled on an incline rise on the top a desert plateau, offering it a height advantage in the otherwise flat and featureless desert badlands and savannas that surround it. Agriculture is difficult to sustain, but a constant supply train sees that the Outpost can live somewhat comfortably in the harshness of the region. To say that life at the Outpost is hard is an understatement; water is always in high demand, and without careful rationing, even the daily shipment of supplies could run out in short order.

Natural Resources

Aside from the ruins that can be found far afield, the region is also rich in ores, crystal geodes and different types of minerals. A quarry and a salt mine have been established close enough to the Outpost to supply it, but not close enough to enjoy the benefits of their Shield Tower. Instead, they employ mercenaries and smaller shield generators to hold their ground against the nighttime attacks from raiders and undead.   Ranches and farms specializing in dry climates can also be found, but they are few and require a lot of protection similar to those mentioned above.
