The Nightblade, Bringer of Ends, Keeper of Balance

The Nightblade

The Nightblade, God of Destruction, Bringer of Ends, Master of Darkness, Right Hand of The Architect. Of all the Dragoon Gods, few are more feared and more mysterious than “the Blade in the Dark.”

Sharpen your Blade

While it is true that his ultimate purpose is to levy unmaking to Creation, it is a duty he bears with solemn dignity and respect. Though his might is nightmarish, he is truly honorable and seeks to maintain balance in the world. His greatest challenge is to act as the gatekeeper for those who seek The Darkness, turning away those whom would only be consumed by, or otherwise allowing mortals to learn The Way of the Bladed One with careful, diligent oversight.   Despite the stigma of being the one burdened with curating such a difficult element, The Nightblade is remarkably easygoing, even-keeled and surprisingly whimsical in his interactions with mortals. He is extremely kind, considerate, and upbeat, teaching a form of “optimistic nihilism” in hopes of gently guiding people away from Darkness, turning them instead to the Light.   He works as the “necessary evil” which allows the The Queen to provide for her people as effectively as she does. During the day, the Light shines brightly with the gleam of her faithful, and during the Night, the Dark is patrolled and the people defended by the work of the Bladed Ones.

Path in the Dark

The Nightblade prioritizes dispensing justice and defending the people from the shadows, yet understands that his role is one of balance, and that may sometimes requires that he become the monster mortals fear. The Nightblade is almost never credited with any good works, and the heroes who serve the Light through the Dark often go unsung, yet such is the price of keeping the balance.   During The Queen’s periods of Repose, The Nighblade is most active, as chaos often springs when The Queen is unable to act. In lieu of the The Queen’s Light, The Nightblade becomes a threat much greater than even Corruption to anyone seeking to disrupt peace within the Radiant Expanse, which has led to strategic assassinations and bloody conflicts during the darkest of times.   Even so, The Nightblade and his Bladed Ones serve, doing what must be done, always at risk of succumbing to the very Darkness they seek to contain, and not always for the most righteous reasons. Such is the nature of Darkness.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

A hulking mass of corded muscle, this incredibly tall, intensely muscular man looms threateningly in the gloom of night.  Yet, there is an air of solemn nobility and immense power that he wears like a mantle.  His body seems artificial, body appearing as if woven by steel cables, hair smoky, black, and loosely bound in the style of the ancient ronin.  He wears only a tattered pair of black pants that once belonged to a gi, and wrapped around his waist is a black cloth belt with golden trim and lettering inscribed in an unknown language.

Body Features

The Nightblade has a body of incredibly sculpted and huge musculature, and is covered in scales that mimic the dull shine of stainless steel.  His musculature seems very much like woven steel cables.  His chest and upper torso has streaks of black scarring in uniformly ragged vertical stripes.  Set along his sternum and below his clavicles are seven golden draconic eyes, similar to that of other Dragoon Gods.

Facial Features

The Nightblade has a statuesque and sculpted form, and his face is no exception.  Sharp cheekbones, broad planes and features, and a powerful jawline adorn his handsome face.  His countenance is at once fierce and jovial, and his flame-bright eyes carry a mirth that somehow seems completely natural.  Offsetting the friendliness of his appearance is a face mask of scars, similar to those on his body, that darken his expressions.  They seems almost like burn wounds...

Apparel & Accessories

Only a pair of tattered black pants, the lower half of a gi uniform.  It is tied up by a martial artist’s Black Belt with golden trim and lettering in an unknown language.  Attempts to read the inscriptions are always unsuccessful, and is often good for a laugh when he challenges others to translate it.   Legend says that anyone capable of doing so could potentially rob him of his incredible power...

Social

Contacts & Relations

Liaison between the Umbral Court and The Queendom.

Family Ties

Son of She Who Knows Best. Brother of The Architect. Husband to Grandmaster Halo. Brother-in-law to The Queen. Uncle to The Prince.

Religious Views

“We do what must be done in the Dark what cannot be done in the Light.”   He is an unwavering servant of The Architect, and none other.  He retains independence from The Queen, and can even conflict with Grandmaster Halo at times concerning matters of spirit.   He teaches the Way of the Bladed One, which shares much in common with Umbralism of the Umbral Court.   He serves The Architect in his own way, and does not moral scruples to impede his actions.

Social Aptitude

He may be a fun person in small doses, but he is no diplomat.  If The Nightblade becomes involved in anything, it is usually to bring it to an end, and he does so with solemn dignity.  Otherwise, he is entirely too much of a goofball to remain serious for long.   He is a charismatic leader, and an awe-inspiring force of personality.  Though he relies on others (such as Agent Core) to establish a sense of decorum, he is ever the capable teacher of his brand of optimistic nihilism.

Mannerisms

The Nightblade is unwaveringly confident, generally informal in his approach, and a showman in battle.  He taunts opponents to bait them into making mistakes, and can often move in sloppy, unpredictable ways to catch people off-guard.  He enjoys a good laugh, and can play tricks of incredible complexity on those he deems fun to poke at.   Woe be to whatever causes him to assume a proper stance.

Hobbies & Pets

Messing with people.  This is endlessly entertaining for him, a pastime he shares with his divine brother.

Speech

Generally a positive and jovial personality, he often speaks plainly, even using the occasional slang with all the native charisma of a streetwise youngster.   If he should start speaking in another capacity, it is usually in a dour and unrelentingly proper tone, spoken with the gravitas fitting for an undertaker.
