Anomaly 1043-M: "Harvest Day"

Summary

Anomaly Number: 1043   Risk Level: High Moderate   Type: Event   Appearance: Quadrennial; initial occurrence March █, 19█.

Description

Anomaly 1043-M is a holiday in Rosewood, dubbed "Harvest Day" by the inhabitants. Town behavior changes three days prior to Anomaly 1043-M, and consists of stringing white-and-green pennant banners across 14th Street. Inhabitants talk enthusiastically about the anomaly, but only during this three-day period. No other mention of "Harvest Day" occurs before or after the anomaly. Anomaly 1043-M always occurs March █ and repeats every four years.   Anomaly 1043-M involves a single semi-trailer truck that enters Rosewood by way of 14th Street at █:█. Inhabitants line 14th Street to wait for its arrival, cheering and following as it makes its way to the intersection of 14th and Main Street. Upon reaching the intersection, the truck stops and the inhabitants pull out tools, utensils, and other implements and swarm the vehicle. The driver is pulled from the cab and dismembered, while the trailer is opened and supplies taken out. The supplies are brought to Wilde's Grocery and stocked on the shelves. The truck is then entirely dismantled and the parts brought to DC Station and Service. The inhabitants then clean themselves and the intersection, and go about their usual activities as if the anomaly had not happened. Anomaly 1043-M lasts for approximately █ hours.   The primary purpose of Anomaly 1043-M seems to be the restocking of resources. Inhabitants of Rosewood are known to consume far less than the average American's recommended daily caloric intake, possibly explaining the relative infrequency of this anomaly. What the mechanical parts taken from the truck are used for is unknown, as no vehicles in Rosewood have ever shown a need for repair. Likewise, the reason for the driver's dismemberment is unclear, with possible reasons ranging from consumption to ritual sacrifice. Further testing is required.

Protocol 1043

All Project Rosewood personnel are to remain outside the Rosewood perimeter for the duration of Anomaly 1043-M. Prior to Anomaly 1043-M, an era-appropriate semi-trailer truck is to be stocked and placed on the exterior of the 14th Street Gate. Drivers are to be chosen from ██████████, and are to be told █████████████. At █:█ on March █, the 14th Street Gate is to be opened and the truck driven through. No other vehicles are allowed to enter the Rosewood perimeter at this time.   Past events have shown that the semi-trailer truck need not be from the 1950s, but it is preferable so as to not interfere with any of Rosewood's unknown temporal distortions. As no mention of Anomaly 1043-M is made by the inhabitants following occurrence, it is unknown if they recognize a difference.

Components and tools

One (1) 1950s semi-trailer truck, one (1) trailer fully stocked with supermarket supplies, & one (1) driver in 1950s clothing.

Event log

  Event 1043-M-1
Event 1043-M-1
March █, 19█. █:█ AM.
A semi-truck belonging to ████████ rammed the 14th Street Gate, damaging the vehicle but allowing it to pass through the Rosewood perimeter. The vehicle continued until it reached the intersection of 14th and Main Street, whereupon Anomaly 1043-M occurred.
Two agents were injured when the 14th Street Gate was rammed. Anti-vehicle barriers were deployed at all gates following this event. A crash was staged in Minnesota to account for the lost driver and vehicle.
  Event 1043-M-2
Event 1043-M-2
March █, 19█. █:█ AM.
Similar to Event 1043-M-1, a semi-truck (this time belonging to █████) rammed the 14th Street Gate. Anti-vehicle barriers prevented it from passing through the Rosewood perimeter, and the driver was killed in the crash.
Inhabitants continued to wait on 14th Street. Approximately 3 hours later, a second semi-truck rammed the 14th Street Gate. The anti-vehicle barriers had been removed to be replaced, and the truck passed into the Rosewood perimeter. Anomaly 1043-M then continued with no other changes.
  Event 1043-M-3
Event 1043-M-3
March █, 19█. █:█ AM.
Protocol 1043 was established and carried out. Anomaly 1043-M occurred with no attempts by any vehicles to breach the Rosewood perimeter. Outcome deemed acceptable by Project Director, risk level downgraded.

I love this! It gave me a "Welcome to Night Vale" vibe. The blanked out information, grey scale theme, and styling of the event logs gave a nice touch of creepy mystery.

Thanks! I've really got to start listening to Night Vale, I've been recommended it a few times now :)

I love this, both for the SCP vibe and because of how grim it is compared to the other entries.

Going grim was a fun way of "subverting" the contest, glad you liked it!

ah, sweet, an update! Is it the new styling for the event-log spoiler buttons? I'd love to get my hands on that CSS code ^-^
