Realms

Project Forge Realms (or just Realms for short) is a Worldbuilding Strategy Game that helps to create a living world. Worldbuilding and writing stories are at the core of this game. In fact, Realms is created to help new and experienced worldbuilders to build worlds. The game can be used as more than just a game, but as a tool for worldbuilding.

Aim of the Game

With Realms, you are to create a faction, nation or another kind of geopolitical organisation (your Realm). Your goal is to ensure your Realm survives by gathering the necessary resources for your Realm's Population.   You will begin by making a small area of your world with one settlement, the Capital. Then you are to iterate through the progress of Turns and Actions to build your World and manage your Realm.

Roll Tables

In Realms are tables that contain options that you roll dice to determine the selection. However, you may choose to either roll or pick an option yourself.   The leftmost column is typically the one to check for the matching number of your die roll. Then follow that row for the details of the selected option.

Requirements

A Worldbuilding Journal & Writing/Drawing Equipment

You need a place to take notes while playing Realms. You can use paper like a journal, notebook, or binder; or you can use digital writing tools and make a folder. WorldAnvil is another great choice.   If you use paper, get a pencil and eraser. You can also use a pen, but if you need to make changes, it's easier to erase and rewrite than to cross out.   You'll also need drawing materials to make maps. These maps will show your world and realm, and help you keep track of the Settlements, Regions and other things in your world.

A Set of Dice

A full set of "RPG" dice is needed to play Realms. Dice are used in Realms to determine the number of factors of Realms. Realms use the same notation of dice, seen in many Table RPG rules, of dN where N is the number of sides the die has.   Like a 6-sided die is written as a d6. You may be asked to roll multiple, for example, 2d6 is telling you to roll two 6-sided dice and add the results. A modifier might be present, for example, 2d6+2; roll 2 d6s, add the result, then add 2. In some cases, an effect may occur only if a certain result of a die roll is met. A conditioned result is noted as N+ where N is the result you must roll equal to or above. For example, a 4+ means you must roll a 4 or higher to pass.   Of course, you may even use a digital dice roller app on your phone, or use any of the roll buttons presented like: 2d6+2 .

How to Play Realms

The Realms system is separated into 3 Steps. Follow each of them in order to learn the different mechanics.

Step 1: Building Your World

Your world is a vast expanse that is only limited by your imagination. Your world is your oyster, you can create in any way you wish.   First, you will need to name your world, then feel free to use this time to think about what kind of world you wish to build. Think of any tones, themes and stories you wish to tell in your world.   With Realms, you are to create your world by first focusing on one small area, your first Realm. You start by creating the Geography of the Realm, by drawing a map and noting the Regions you've created. Follow either of the Realm Map Creation Guides, to learn how to create a map of your Realm.   Architects may choose to either use the Free or Premium Forge version. The difference is the Premium Forge will guide you on making more elements to your landscape, like Rivers, Lakes and more on creating Mountain Ranges.
