Iq'tir

"Watch as the light falls, sweetheart. When the sky seems to flicker like a lantern, that's how you know you've seen her."
— A father to his daughter

The Shimmer in a Shadow

Nothing more than a quiet presence watching over the mortals of the Eight Lands, Iq'tir represents the moment between moments, the time that always seems to slip away too fast while being achingly slow to arrive.   She slips in and out of everywhere with ease, simply stepping between what has happened and what is happening, though never crossing into what will happen. Iq'tir, much unlike the mortals she drifts through the moments of, does not dabble in fates and is what she will always be.   Her presence in these precious moments lend them their lethargy and their fleetingness as she drifts in and out of them.

The Lingering of a Light

Iq'tir has no desire for power, no dreams of greatness. She exists much like the person sitting behind you in a restaurant at their own table; their presence is able to be felt but it never quite reaches where your awareness and your consciousness meet. They exist purely as a silent mark in the back of the mind, a subtle reminder of their presence but an all too easily forgotten one.   Her domain being as it is, she is content to sit, watch, and listen as the moments pass by, enjoying them as one does a cup of tea while sitting outside in the quiet hours of a chilly morning.   Though she stays in the moments between, time can be a fickle mistress and is wont to flow as it wishes. Crossing the flow of time is no free act, a price is paid or one may simply... fade.

'The moment between moments....' that whole bit is damn well written, paints a great image in the mind, and a unique one that is intriguing and strange, as far as divine entities go. I like the imagery and descriptions, they are fitting, and really drive home the idea. The bit about the person sitting behind you at their own table in a restaurant got me, that one really brought it all together nicely, gave a very human way to picture Iq'tir, and we always like humanizing the concepts of divinity and divine beings.

I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed it, and more so that I didn't miss the mark with Iq'tir. Deities can be ephemeral at times, or at least we seem to like to portray them that way, so I definitely agree on humanizing them when possible/appropriate.

I don't know why, but reading this article gave me a nice warm feeling in my chest. I feel like Iq'tir is a deity I could worship.
