"You got the moose coffee, didn't you?"
"......"
"Didn't you?"
"...That wasn't a joke? That exists?"— A moose coffee lover and their partner
Delicious
Growing in remote corners of the
Gelaal Mountains, these small dark brown beans, who grow in similar formations to the antlers of their namesake, have found their way into the culinary practices of several cultures. Whether they're used to create drinks meant to energize you or simply as a form of flavouring, there's a purpose to be found for them.
If bitten into without any kind of preparation, they overwhelm the senses, releasing an intense bitter flavour and a strong scent reminiscent of toasted apples. However, once prepared into a fine powder and water poured over it in precise measurements, that bitter flavour becomes sweeter, and the scent becomes more similar to that of vanilla. To get a sweeter taste the powder should be almost dust-like, and should one desire that natural bitterness they must simply grind them into a coarse powder instead.
Capricious
Though these beans grow in remote areas, there have been several attempts to foster them in more urban environments, with limited success. Some have managed a harvest or two before their plants have died, others never got them growing. While the difference appears to be whether the transplanted flora have some of the soil from their natural home, magical support for the plants have achieved a similar result before simply rotting away within days of the first harvest.
Because of their difficulty in being acquired, moose coffee is rather expensive, costing nearly ten times a bottle of good, though not fine, wine in some cities. A few nobles have even paid for their own expeditions to their remote regions, simply just to have their own supply for a while, though this practice has quickly fallen out of favour due to the seeming "loss" of the beans as the expeditions return.
I don't really like coffee, but your description has convinced me that I would try this one. <3

I don't like coffee either, so I wanted to write something I thought I might want to try. I'm happy to hear you'd also try it!
