Mossback Dragon

"Marvin?"
"Yes, Jakeb?"
"Back up slowly."
"Why?"
"We're standing on a dragon."
"This is a rock..."
"Rocks don't snore."
— Marvin and Jakeb, realizing their mistake

Greener Grasses

Nestled within the ground of the forest floor, one might find themselves standing on a pile of rocks that is gently snoring. These rocks are, in fact, not rocks at all but are instead the sleeping body of a mossback dragon. These gentler than most creatures rest easy wherever they happen to be within the forests they call home. They are calm and collected creatures, and while they are not capable of speaking in a mortal tongue, they have the ability to communicate with the creatures and plants of the forest, allowing them to aid the forests in their growth.
They do not defend these forests, at least not as far as Wood Wardens might protect them. They are, however, still guardians of their homes and will not sit idle when someone attempts to hurt it, but should they be placed against a force greater than their own then they will choose to flee.

Pleasant Places

Despite their willingness to leave their forest homes when overpowered, mossback dragons are not to be considered weak. Unlike their cousins who may wield the power of fire, cold, or even lightning, mossback dragons breath life into their homes. While some may consider this to be some form of allegory, it is entirely literal.
They flee their homes after breathing life into the forest, summoning the strength of the trees and the ground itself to fight as the true residents of the forest floor.
Where one may be able to fight a dragon, it takes many more to fight the forest itself.

I love that they look like piles of rocks.

Honestly, they don't really look like piles of rocks, but their colouration and the moss that grows on their bodies really gives it that kind of look. It's very effective camouflage, who'd want to attack a pile of rocks?
