Pronotor Species in Pronathea | World Anvil

Pronotor

"Found in the deepest jungles, pronotors are expert hunters. Should you come across one, it may be too late..."
— An excerpt from The Poacher's Publication on Predators

Sharp spined

Under the deep brush of the jungle, the snarling ruffians that are pronotors lie in wait for their prey. Their massive canine-like bodies are covered in sharp spines which hold a fast acting poison within their tip. These spines are up to half a meter long, and cover every inch of their deep blue, leathery skin. Their eyes are a solid green colour, with no visible pupil to them, due to their sight not being limited to that of the material plane. Their eyesight is one of the significant contributors to their hunting ability, as it allows them to see what cannot be seen but is most certainly there.   Pronotors are unceasing in their hunt as their immense stamina keeps them bounding towards their target. Despite their size, they are also extremely acrobatic, often bounding off trees and across other obstacles to ensure that their prey is caught. While they mostly hunt for food, on occasion pronotors will choose to hunt against another to see which of them can catch the better prey.

Quick Willed

Every pronotor is a vicious carnivore, even their cubs hunt from birth, however they are not heartless. Their breeding cycle is long and difficult, and their offspring is few, so to keep their species alive they protect their cubs with every inch of their own lives. They have no familial groups, no tribes or packs, they operate only as mated couples. Once their cubs have reached maturity a year after birth, they go off in search of their own mate to begin their pairing.   Some hunters dream of killing a pronotor, but very few have ever successfully been killed by a single hunter alone. Most hunters who try to go after a pronotor find themselves thrown off this mortal coil with extreme prejudice.

Oooh, these beasties sound amazing! It is actually one of the few for which I would keep my distance. Although, I'd love to see if I can tame one still. :3   Keep up the good work! :D
