"Have you ever bloody seen one? Up close?"
"...No..."
"I thought not. You could walk past one of them and simply think 'huh, that's a strangely scaly textured long, ambulatory rock'. These bloody dragons are very good at hiding!"— Two other dragonologists
Bushy
As one of the smaller dragons found in the Eight Lands, veldviper dragons are built for the open plains and plateaus of the Eastern land. Their bodies are long and slending, granting them efficient movement through grassy terrain. The varies browns, greens, and golds of their scales serve as a natural camouflage for their dry habitat. These same scales protect them from becoming nothing more than a baked meal under the relentless sun of the plains.
Their eyes are adapted for bright light, their pupils formed into slits much like their namesake, providing them excellent vision in the sunlight and giving them every advantage over their prey.
Capable of blending into the grasslands to the point of becoming nearly invisible, these dragons use their venomous fangs to spear their prey, most often the small to medium sized mammals and reptiles that share their home.
Leafy
Those who encounter a veldviper dragon are few and far between, as encounters with them, at least knowing encounters with them, are rare and happen at a distance. Those who do see them find themselves with a sense of calm respect for the dragons, recognizing the rough and ready attitude that they must hold to be as adept a survivor in the open plains as they are.
Myths have been built around them, heralding these dragons as a kind of protector of the plains. While this is not a false tale to tell, there are many who would disagree with it, instead choosing to label them as nothing more than simple minded creatures that are no more special than a wolf is. As with all things, it is up to the individual to decide which tale they'd tell and which they'd rather let lie.
Ooo, I love them. I don't think I'd ever see one even if I was about to step on it, but I love them.
