Veren

"Do you swear upon the Allegiant to uphold the code of the city?"
"You know, I've been meaning to ask, who is the Allegiant? I've never heard of them before."
"Oh you have got to be kidding me... How did you make it to the swearing ceremony of the city guard without knowing who the Allegiant is?"
"It never came up."
— A newly appointed city guardsman and a confused guard captain

The Dutybound

Said to have sprang into existence the moment someone first thought "This needs doing, and no one else will bloody well do it.", Veren is a peculiar figure amongst the deities of the Eight Lands. He doesn't revel within chaos or love or thunderbolts. Instead, he is punctual, precise, and never forgets an appointment. Rather than smiting, he simple schedules, leaving not a fiery wrath to be feared but paperwork to be filled in triplicate. His followers range from clerks to guardsmen to aristocrats, as well as the ocassional person with an alarming fondness for to-do lists. He doesn't inspire, or care for, prayer, not when that nagging feeling of doing whatever you're responsible for can be had instead.   As a creature of routine, process, and mind-numbing persistence, you won't find him basking in glory; instead you will find him amongst those who are holding the fort down, cleaning up messes, or staying late to ensure the invoices are handled. After all, duty isn't about glory or recognition. It is about showing up every day, no matter the weather, no matter how much you'd rather be somewhere else, and getting things done.

The Honourable

Whether it's tending to crops, filling out forms, or, in the case of heroes, confronting terrible monsters, all that Veren expects is that you fulfill your obligations without fuss. Those who shirk their duties, however, can expect an uncomfortable presence at their back, a persistent feeling that they've forgotten something rather important.   While Veren is not one to be feared, he certainly is unable to be ignored. Always there, in the back of your mind, reminding you that the world doesn't move forward on its own.

*procrastination intensifies uncomfortably*   I love him. He's an interesting deity.

Interesting is definitely the word for him, and for some inexplicable reason I imagine him with an abacus
