The Well of Sacred Tears

When the ritual that would strip away the godly powers was underway, Onjuk divinatory powers revealed the situation to him. While he realized the scope of what was occurring, he also realized that he had no time and no ability to do anything to stop it. Being a kind and soft-hearted god, this fact, and the fact of what it would do not only to his fellow deities, but also the mortals they served, brought forth tears from his eyes. He knew that the one who performed the ritual had nothing good in mind for what he would do with the power, and the helplessness that Onjuk filled him with great sadness and despair. As he wept, his tears fell to the world he had looked after for so long, striking the ground in the country of Aurinbah. The sacred nature of his tears compelled the earth itself to react, and the tears pooled into a small, sheltered area, forming a natural well in the wilderness. Nature itself took a protective stance around the well, the plants, trees, animals, and sylvan creatures becoming its guardians. When the gods descended to the world, Onjuk felt himself drawn to the country in which his tears had fallen. He was completely unaware of what had happened, remaining oblivious to the presence of the well that holds great power. It was this country in which he chose to dwell, and later rule, the forest in which the well hides gaining a reputation for greater enchantment than it had otherwise had. No one knows why this is true, although rumours have abounded about there being a place of great power within the forest. While many have attempted to try and find the truth, the forest and its inhabitants have managed to keep the secret, strongly aided by the fact that the tears in the well belong to the former god of secrets.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The water from the well can grant divinatory powers upon being imbibed. The extent of the power depends upon the heart of the one who is attempting to use it. The water can also be used as a sort of mirror to other places and beings, its guardian able to call up pictures of those places. She can also use it to see ahead into the future regarding the place, or being, that she wishes to see, although it will not show more than a day ahead.

Significance

Its importance as an artifact of one of the former gods is clear, even though none but its primary guardian have any idea of its power over divination and secrets. Its power has also given the forest that is its home an aura of secrecy and power that keep it safe from prying eyes and protect those who guard its existence.
