Die of the Heartless Mender
Wondrous Item, uncommon
A single twenty-sided die made from blackened wood, with its numbers etched in a deep crimson hue. If you hold the die by your ear you can hear a voice begging to go home, but with no discernible way to help it.
Rolling the die beside a broken object has a chance to repair its damage. The die only has one chance to work per object, and will never work again for that object, no matter how much time passes. The object may be no larger than 20 feet in any dimension or no mending effect takes place. The die may be used once a day, resetting at dawn.
Roll a d20 to simulate the use of this item, and consult the table below for the resulting effect.
- 1 The object remains damaged.
- 2-7 All damage in an area no larger than 1 feet in any dimension is mended, leaving no trace of the former impairment.
- 8-15 All damage in an area no larger than 5 feet in any dimension is mended, leaving no trace of the former impairment.
- 16-19 The object is entirely repaired, up to 20 feet in any dimension.
- 20 If the object is a magic item, and no larger than 3 feet in any dimension, it is fully repaired and its magical enchantment is restored. If the object is not a magic item, and no larger than 3 feet in any dimension, an exact duplicate of it materializes beside it. If the object is larger than 3 foot in any dimension, but smaller than 20 feet in any dimension, it is entirely repaired.
