Gamal Haroun Dies, Citri Is Freed
Gamal had imprisoned Citri in the body of Theodore Sharp. Citri wants to get access to the deck of wonders. Using it’s divine energy Citri planned to break the curse that Gamal had placed on her and return to her true form.
Gamal stole the deck from Radford in order to keep it safe. The king was aware of Theodore’s true identity but the magic placed on the King for years by Citri’s remaining Chaotic energy was too much for him to remember. In short bursts he recalls a time where he told Gamal to keep the deck safe.
Radford knew only that he had obtained a deck of wonders many centuries ago and it had been kept safe in the house of bjorn. He did not know that Theodore was Citri. Radford knows of Gamal Haroun as he is a legendary fragment wielder.
Gamal did not want the players to interact with Theodore. This is why he continually rewinded the players when they were attempting to get access to Theodore’s secrets. If the players revealed Teddy’s treachery, they would be led to try to stop Citri, Gamal did not want the players involved.
The players enter the throne room. Theodore is being held captive by Varveque. There are several guards holding position at the throne room. It is a standoff. Varveque will attempt to kill Theodore. As soon as he does, you will hear a voice echo out. “You fools. Stop.” All time stops as Gamal Haroun appears on the dias. He is an old frail man wearing little but a loincloth. Around his waist is a small leather satchel. He wields the continuance pendulum as it hovers above his shoulder.
You see him holding his concentration as the spell is continuing. It looks hard for him to hold a magic effect this powerful for this long. Some blood trickles from his nose. He unfreezes your party and Theodore and Varveque and can only find the strength to utter one sentence, “Don’t kill him. It will only make things worse.”
Varveque is stunned. He looks over Theodore and Theodore has a look in his eyes and face that you have never seen before. The center of his eyes burn a bright red, his teeth and mouth look black and a negative energy comes off of him like you have never felt. Theodore darts towards Gamal Haroun who is focused on charging his spell. He latches on to Gamal and starts ripping at his bag. The deck of wonders falls from the bag onto the ground and Theodore darts for it.
Gamal unpauses his spell. The room comes alive. The players begin fighting the guards that are now leaping towards them. You see Thedore scramble for the deck and grab it. He rips open the deckbox shouts “30” and begins drawing cards flicking them onto the ground one by one. You see him start to flicker in and out of reality. Warping with every card drawn.
As he finishes the last card a white seam begins to form down the center of his body from the top of his head down to his toes. His skin begins peeling away at the seems.
Gamal Haroun starts casting against Theodore. He is attempting to rewind the draw of the deck of wonders. It is creating a crazy show of lights and energy on the dais. Over the roar of the two spells colliding Gamal manages to shout:
“That man is no man. That is Citri, I imprisoned her in a mortal body years ago. She is trying to use the deck of wonders to break free of my imprisoning spell. I don’t think I can reverse this. Whatever comes next, you have to find a way to bring me back.”
