Orators of the Vagolan Assembly
Although it is well known that there are a multitude of races and cultures in Qerodil, a civil society is defined as a region or populace that is represented in the Vagolan Assembly. Every eight years a political collection is held on the largest island of the Vagola Strait, where elected orators exchange census on matters such as population and economy, as well as hold vote on matters beyond their represented region. Most importantly, these political envoys determine if the next seasonal change will usher in a new era.
The two distinct eras of Qerodil--being diurnal and nocturnal--represent different laws and restrictions globally placed across civil society. These eras alternate between one another every few centuries when called for by the Vagolan Assembly, and are counted consecutively. A diurnal era follows in the lessons of Od, and encourages hunting, festivities, and religious expansion. Conversely, nocturnal eras respect the will of Ao'di, redirecting religious taxes to civil expansion, which makes for an influx of labor work like mining and farming. These eras change to balance the natural order, helping to prevent extreme phenomena such as extinction or economic recession.
As far as picking an orator, each civil region may select up to three, and no single body may represent a Vagolan Assembly more than once so as to dissuade political bias. As well, no single kingdom or district may elect more than one representative for any given assembly unless that assembly would consist of less than eight total orators. Being selected for this position is considered a great honor, and typically comes from an order of the highest regional authority. History has shown members of high political influence to be considered as an orator, such as devoted clergymen or high chancellors. Renowned academics tend to accompany these envoys for the sake of documented accuracy.
