Taroxil, the Marksman
Taroxil is one of the most commonly known markers of Qerodil's civil populace. It is a circumpolar constellation comprised of nine stars forming a bow and arrow, and the upper body of the revered marksman. Legend states that Taroxil was Od's mentor before his ascension into the pantheon. He was said to teach the huntsman every age-old lesson about survival, the conservation of ecology, and most importantly, navigation. In return for his wisdom Od visited his mortal teacher during his venerable days and offered him a plaque in the sky to guide the misguided. Now, Taroxil kneels vigilantly above the horizon with an arrow nocked over the sea routes between Virdwel and Xourn.
The tip of Taroxil's arrow marks the brightest star of the constellation, and it is also what sailors use to guide their way. This star is referred to as the Aleman's arrow, as it points directly north by west-northwest during the apex of trade season. Alternatively, it points south by east-southeast during the calm days of wet season. These directions are the most common route of Aleman's Way, and they are most accurate during the safest travel times of the year.
Additionally, the top of Taroxil's bow points directly north by northwest at the beginning of trade season. Although seafaring has advanced beyond the use of rudimentary sextants in recent eras, it is still a popular Virdwelian tradition to send the first envoy of the season toward Tricorne Bay. The arrival of this envoy marks the beginning of the annual seven-day deckhand festival in Skael Wharf, where the streets are proudly left unwashed while taverns openly share their patrons in celebration.
