The Mantle of Vs'kyrsk
A few days' voyage northeast of the archipelago of Ynxia lies the minor continent of Tsketlacxiue. This area is densely populated with reptilian species, including a semi-intelligent cooperative of lizardfolk. Diplomatic envoys sent to this region have been met with mixed results. Those that come back successful report that the tribalistic society with significant focus on religious tradition. Tithes from lesser inhabitants are commonly accepted by their larger, more decorated kin. The highest authoritative figure within these tribes is adorned with a gloriously detailed mantle of metal.
The mantle of Vs'kyrsk is a golden head garb draped with raw gemstones and sewn with a shawl of plated brass. Given its overbearing heft, the mask serves as both a reminder of strength and a symbol of status to all who refer to the central chieftain. Scouts report that the lizardfolk tribesmen tend to stand anywhere between seven to eleven feet tall, and vary significantly in musculature based on their subspecies. Only the strongest, battle proven, most devout individuals are allowed an opportunity to challenge for rights to the mantle via unarmed combat. For this reason, chieftains are only known to carry their position throughout the prime of their lives. These fights are always to the death--it is considered an honor to pass on the mantle, and a great shame to defy the central chieftain without sufficient strength
Who or what this society seems to worship remains a mystery. Academics are still unsure of the name Vs'kyrsk refers to a site of reverence or a greater entity. However, infiltrators have discovered sprawling painted murals on the walls of the stone hewn northern temples illustrating these lizardfolk making offerings to abhorrent beasts several times their size. It is speculated that, if these creatures are real, they rest so far below sea level that the amphibious tribesmen make pilgrimages to make their offerings. A single adorned figure among the masses of worshipers is a commonality through most of these drawings, suggesting that the Mantle of Vs'kyrsk has been a tradition at least as old as their establishment of primitive society.
