Siemnan Strawberry Festival
Fairs, sweets, games, and lots of strawberries
The Siemnan strawberry festival is an annual tradition in Siemna during the first month considered summer, Tagidor. It is celebrated with fairs, dances, and games.
On the first day of the festival, the town bells ring in the morning and everyone is released from work or school to run out the gates and pick strawberries. Tagidor strawberries grow all over the forest just outside Siemna, so nobody ventures far from the town. At the end of the day, the biggest strawberry is selected, and everyone goes home to make decorations for their homes and various strawberry candies and baked goods.
During the second day, all the houses and buildings are draped with garlands and wreaths of strawberry vines and blossoms. Dances are held in the town square, and the fair is filled with minstrels and children riding a merry-go-round pulled by a donkey. Little baskets of sweets are set out on every doorstep, and children race down the streets from one to the next, grabbing handfuls of candy with each house.
The strawberry festival is observed on the 25th and 26th days of the month of Tagidor. During the first day, everyone leaves work or school to pick strawberries. Then, on the second day, fairs and celebrations go on all day long. Sometimes it is conflated with other holidays since the lunar alignment can vary.
