The Far North
A land of ice and beauty
The Far North is the northernmost region of Nakun, covered in tundra and snow. It is a dramatic landscape, with icy, plunging fjords, elven cities of frozen spires, and clusters of small huts belonging to human tribesmen. The sea here is freezing, dark, and unimaginably deep. Inhabitants must constantly watch for yeti, seastorms, and the endless danger of the deadly cold. Herds of reindeer trot for miles across the tundra, polar bears dance with the aurora borealis, and packs of arctic wolves howl sorrowfully at the distant, unreachable moon.
Geography
The freezing tundra of the Far North features rolling drifts of snow, icy chasms dropping into the cold, dark sea, and towering frosty spires reaching beyond the clouds. Snowstorms and seastorms churn day and night, while the bright colors of the aurora borealis dance light onto the ice. Treks here are long and cold, while the endless cold can freeze a man to death. The land can be steep, gentle, or flat, and at the edges of the sea, men walk on nothing more than eons-old ice.
Fauna & Flora
The Far North is populated by yeti, seals, polar bears, snowy owls, arctic foxes, and other fauna of the tundra. Human cultures often tame arctic wolves as hunting companions and reindeer as livestock and mounts. The apex predators are yeti, remorhazes, and white dragons. Frost giants once attempted to colonize the area, but failed when their settlement fell through the ice, creating the large ice-hole nicknamed "Giant's Fall". The arctic elves additionally keep owls and foxes as pets and comapanions in their cities of frosted spires.
Flora in the region is mainly limited to various lichens and mosses, along with grasses and small trees in the more southern parts. One notable exception exists, though, the "Tears of Iarera". These flowers grow anywhere on land, even during the winter. Frost and wind appears to have no effect on them, and they don't grow anywhere else in the known multiverse. The blossoms are mixtures of many different bright colors. When the aurora borealis are visible, the stalks sway, the blossoms glow, and the leaves emit a faint humming noise. To the Oqa people of the Far North, these flowers are sacred and believed to be the earthly tears of their goddess Iarera.
