Lament for Grozgat the Great
TWO MILLENNIA, A CHILDS AGE, AND ELEVEN SEASONS OF STRONMAUS, AFTER THE PLANES WERE ASSUNDERED AND THE GODS LEFT OUR GRAZING LANDS, GROZGAT THE GREAT, SON OF HARGOT II, WHO WAS SON OF AGEROTH III, WHO WAS SON OF MORDAR, WHO WAS SON OF HARGOT THE MAGNIFICENT, WHO WAS SON OF JUNTHAR II, WHO WAS SON OF LOMAR, WHO SON OF AGEROTH II, WHO WAS SON OF JUNTHAR I, WHO WAS SON OF AGEROTH I, HAS DIED OF ILL BREATH IN THE PALACE OF HARGOT THE MAGNIFICENT. HE IS SUCCEDED BY NO SON NOR DAUGHTER, AND IS AS SUCH THE LAST OF THE LINE OF AGEROTH. SO HIS COUSIN, FRANTHIR, SON OF MASHINIR, DAUGHTER OF HARGOT II, SHALL TAKE THE THRONE OF KROWETHIA. BE WITH THE GODS O GROZGAT THE GREAT, FOR YOU DID CLAIM THE FROZEN ISLES AND BRING GLORY TO THE HOUSE OF YMIR. YOU DID FOUND TWO GREAT CITIES IN OLD GRUZZ, REBUILDING FERINZAD AND CREATING GROZGANGRAD ON THE COAST OF BRAIRS. YOU DID FUND THE HIGH TEMPLE OF THE ALL FATHER IN LERGAR, YOU DID MARK THE GREAT FESTIVAL OF THE GROVES AND EXCHANGE TRIBUTE WITH THE MEN OF HILLS AND FORESTS. YOU DID BUILD THE GREAT ORCHESTRA OF SOOGOTHICA. YOU DID COMMISION THE BARDS TO BRING GREAT WORK. YOU DID BRING GREAT WEALTH TO ALL KROWETHIA. ON YOUR PASSING YOU LEAVE YOUR KINGDOM, YOUR TWO THOUSAND SERVILES, YOUR GREAT GALLERY, THE GEMS OF AGEROTH I, AND THE GREAT DIAMOND OF PRANAT. KROWETHIA MOURNS YOUR LOSS, OH LAST OF THE LINE OF AGEROTH, AND MAY THE GODS WELCOME YOU TO THEIR HALLS.
Purpose
Amongst the most interesting in the archives; this document demonstrates an incredible insight into ancient giant culture and its influence on modern Aedrinarian society. The measurement of years is by scale rather than quantifiable units, a trend which unfortunately makes much of the mythic age hard to chronologise. Millenia has an obvious translation, but the measurements of a childs age and seasons of Stronmaus are in dispute. It is theorised by academics that “A Child’s Age” refers to around a century, but there is no way to validate this outside of comparing various dating records which are equally inconsistent. A Season of Stronmaus is most likely a single year, which is the only giant dating historians can determine for sure, knowing that Stranmaus referred to the autumn period when storms are common in the Terrasic Ocean.
A few interesting references are also the first written records of practices now considered human and Aedrinaran. The most confusing to anthropologists would be the line about ‘calling out to the gods.’ This is incredibly similar to the Aedrinarian practice of holding a slain warrior’s eyes open and crying out to the sky whilst holding a weapon. This practice is rare to see, as it is reserved for only the most prestigious of fighters, but was frequently catalogued during the 40 year war and has been tied to human Aedrinrian culture since the honoured gods ascended. This document seems to suggest this practice was taken from ancient giant culture, which would be a surprise to humans on continent.
The second item throwing doubt on common history is the reference to the line of Ymir. Current understanding is that Ymir was the giant tasked with taking control of Jotun and helping the Vanir and Aesir defeat the forgotten gods, but this seems to suggest Ymir is in fact a celestial name and the famous frost giant was named after him instead. This could imply that the royal family of Krowethia were tied to frost giants through marriage.
