Psionics

The mind can be a powerful thing, many creatures can use telepathy or harness arcane magic, but some have been given the power to manipulate the very fabric of the universe. Known as psionics, this power comes from the astral sea, the galaxy above Prima Terra. Those who have been touched by the power of the stars or those that inhabit it can be gifted with this metaphysical power. Creatures such as illithids, aboleths, and cosmic horrors also inately contain the power of psionics.   One can gain psionic power accidently or deliberately. Striking a deal or pact with a psionic being may impart this gift on you, or deliberately exposing yourself to astral winds or meteorites can also impart psionic powers. Within Prima Terra, the gift is exceptionally rare with most astral sea exposures being accidental.  

Ice Elves

Within Asrinheim, the Ice Elves have been known to harness cosmic magic. The Astrailaigh ritual is undertaken for chosen warriors who must train for their entire childhoods to undergo the right of staring through a natural wormhole within the fortress of Mayrin. This wormhole is small and leads to somewhere deep within the astral sea, rumoured to be on the edge of space itself before it gives way to the Far Realms.   Training to undergo this ritual takes decades and usually begins at around 25-30 years old and ends around the 50-60 mark, although the rites can be taken anytime before the age of 100. Many do not complete their rites, choosing to return to their families or undertake more conventional warrior training. The first decade is often spent in meditation, learning to master control of the mind, surpressing inner desires and passions in solitude and contemplation. After this, a period of weapon training will begin. Warriors are trained in all manner of weapons, and are then expected to choose a weapon speciality.   Once this has been completed, usually after 20 years of training, the warrior will undertake the first key rite, having to spend a month meditating before a shard of meteroite that once fell through this wormhole. Not all who spend time with their shards unlock psionic powers, but those who succeed continue to the fourth stage of training. In this stage, they begin to harness their psionic powers and practice using them. After another 5-8 years, if they have suitable control they progess to the final rites. Those who do not become guadian monks for the monastery who must take a vow to only serve the order. Some of these monks who later learn to master their powers go on to become tutors and teachers within the monastery.   The final right involves spending an hour looking into the wormhole deep within the monastery's vaults. This massive exposure to the astral sea can cause all manner of side-effects. Some go mad, some sea the universe, some experience complex visions, and others feel nothing. If one completes this rite, they most then pass seventeen trials of mind and blade before finally being allowed to return home.   During their time in the monastery, visits from friends and family are permitted only three times a year. Once for the Summer Solstice, once for a student's birthday, and once for Yuletide. Amongst some ice elves, completing these rites counts as their completion of the 'great trial' to become an cultural adult.  

Great Steppe

The Great Cataclysm that destroyed the Rexian Empire and turned it into the wasteland of the great steppe has left its magical mark. Soulthek's power came from the Astral sea, and amongst the scars of the second soulthek war ripples of pisonic energy remain. Psionics are most common in this region due to this, as exposure to this energy births many psionic sorcerers.   The Star Cult within the steppes takes psionically gifted people and crafts them into psi-warriors as dedication to an entity they call 'the star of endless destruction.' This makes the Star Cult some of the most deadly mercanaries for hire amongst the steppes, with the group being hired by multiple factions during the 40 year war.

Manifestation

Psionic powers usually manifest as a subtle, invisible weave of energy. The gift manifests differently amongst individuals, and to some it can ressemble ripples of energy through the air, blue or purple ribbons of energy, and even rips within space time. Those who have psionic powers often feel a light hum or vibraton within themselves. This is believed to be the vibration of the multiverse's creation that is still rippling through space time.

Localization

Psionics is most common within the Astral Sea. The safety of planets within wildspace protects them from the deepest ripples of cosmic energy. To those that inhabit the astral sea long term psionics will naturally manifest in multiple ways. The Gith peoples are the most prevelant psionic entities due to their lives being lived almost entirely within the astral sea, to the point psionic power is now genetic amongst their populations who settle on worlds.
