Rauttland

Rauttland is an uninhabited island part of the Kingdom of Jotun, about 8 miles off the western coast of the duchy of Jameleska. This infertile, rugged, and inhospitable island is home to mysterious Basilisk library and is the lair of the infamous Silver Guardian. The island has held several small settlements across the years, but none has lasted into the modern day. By 1052, 3e, the Island is completely abandoned by civilization, what few ruins there were are buried beneath the snows.

Basilisk Library

During the first to second ages, the Basilisk Order of Skalds built their library on the island. A bardic establishment dedicated to martial study, the order would be wiped out in a failed raid against the Jotun as part of the Jameleskan Wars in the second age. Doomed 2 Die would eventually re-discover this library whilst helping Einar peruse their quest to find the secrets of library and find the lost libraries of the skalds. The library is current vacant, but under the stewardship of Einar.

The Silver Guardian

The Silver Guardian was an ancient silver dragon that looked over the island and cared to the ruins of the Basilisk Library. Thousands of years old, living since at least the second age, the Silver Guardian stayed solely within the islands boundaries. This may be a reason the Jotun never established further settlements on the islands, out of fear the powerful and lawful dragon would destroy their homesteads.
The Silver Guardian would die when Doomed 2 Die came across the Basilisk Library. Knowing his life was at an and, and his stewardship of the library would finally pass, the guardian charged the adventurers with the task of putting the spirits of the order to bed. When they had accomplished this, and passed the final door of secrets, the mighty dragon granted the rulership of the library to Einar and died, becoming and egg which Azura would escort to the Draconist Pagoda in Jameleska.

Geography

The Island is largely snow covered, with no natural rivers or fresh water sources above ground. In its central highlands numerous underground water sources can be found. The Ancient Basilisk Skalds used these sources to support their settlement. The Island is volcanically dormant, and came out of the ocean during the early mythic age.
