Guðmundr Býleistr

Guðmundr Býleistr

A boy born into a life of the blade and might. Growing up as Warrior in a Goliath Tribe he has learned many ways of life that reverberate to the core of his being. To be weak is to be left behind and fend for oneself or die. Fighting their kin or the other occupants of Orithiyia such as the orcish or tiefling tribes or even the mountain itself.       Like all Goliaths, when they are born they are seen by the clan’s shaman they are given the fortune of the newborn and what their future will hold for them. The bones foretold a child with miraculous conquests ahead, most likely will the expansion and domination over the local region. The parents being more than thrilled accepted it and wanted to prepare their child this, and in their culture such divinations are taken seriously. His fragile constitution seemed to have been an unforeseen roadblock and even moderate labor seemed to be an impossible task. The Chieftain's hopes for his successor diminished with each failed attempt and his wife suffered from self-loathing trying to deal with the reality of bearing a weak heir but tried their best to support their child..The familial strain between Gudmundr and his parents was like a chasm of dread. Frustrated at his own cursed body he had wanted to tear off his own skin and perish in repentance as his family for failing them many times. Though he did not follow through due the respect he has for his parents for not abandoning him yet despite their better judgment. Wanting his blood’s legacy to continue strong the chieftain attempted every option available to him. Trying day after day with spiritual rituals and herbal concoctions to remedy this condition, sometimes afraid his son would pass away in the night..       Eventually deciding to exile their boy and trying again for another, the Chieftain threw Gudmundr out with nothing but a cloak and a handaxe letting the wild decide what becomes of him. As he walked away the young goliath turned to get one last glimpse of the place he called home he saw the tormented look on his father’s face having to do such a thing as a small tear dripped from his stoic face.       As a teenager left to fend for himself against wild cruelty of nature there were little options available. Barely able to catch small game with a poorly made bow the boy scrapped by, fading in and out of consciousness. This was a repeating cycle, until one day a stranger travelling found him resting against the tree mid hunt passed out with bow in hand. Seeing the grave state of the child they took pity on them, taking him to a nearby overhang starting a campfire. After realizing the child has been cursed they channeled their energy, expending a diamond to cast greater restoration on them. As their help seemed to be no longer needed they left a pack of rations and a set of worn clothes that they could spare. Leaving the child huddled next to the fire with a new start for their life with a farewell note.       Waking up feeling rested for once in his life seeing the supplies the stranger left along with the note that was written in a language he couldn’t read. Not fully understanding what happened but did know someone gave him mercy, he would not let this chance go to waste. Day by day he would slowly build back strength, hunting bigger game and selling the excess to the neighboring tribes, even travelling to the plains. Picking up a little knowledge along the way. Years had gone by and becoming a young adult he had seen the results of his efforts and merits in solitude thanks to the opportunity a stranger from when he was young gave him. Through the trials of his early life he learned the lesson of strife and with it the wisdom of value in a life when it is allowed to continue and flourish to reach aspired potential. Gudmundr would now live for himself and put his all into whatever he wanted to achieve.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

To explore and create a legend for himself to be revered and remembered by his people and others in an effort to surpass the folk heroes of the past he has looked up to in his youth. Along the spine of the world there is rumored to live giants and the giants have always been rumored to be related to their culture and immortalized as a pinnacle of strength and he would really want to meet and or fight such a mythical figure.   ( There is a story passed down throughout Goliath culture of those that are beyond time, the Goliaths who are said to have carved the mountains to where they stand, who stand as tall as mountains themselves. It is said that these Giants, one step lesser than the ancient titans themselves, hail from The Grand Crevasse, far away in the forgotten lands of Horizon.)

I once satirized a noble who still wants my head. I love a good insult, even one directed at me.   I can stare down a hellhound without flinching.   I bluntly say what other people are hinting at or hiding.   I idolize a hero of the old tales and measure my deeds against that person.   I trust in my weapon as it is a tool that keeps me alive.
