Thunder

The whole house shook. I must have jumped two feet in the air and I was sitting down! The weather report called for thundershowers so it's not like it was entirely unexpected, but there was no rain or lightning that I had seen or heard. All was silent. Had that been thunder? It sounded like thunder, rolling off into the night rather than one abrupt sound. Could it have been a plane breaking the speed of sound? I mean, that one and done... I jumped again. More rolling thunder. That had to be thunder, right?   I went to the window to look out into the night. I couldn't see all that well, but I could see well enough to know it wasn't raining. I waited but there was also no lightning. Just as I was about to let go of the curtains I was holding back thunder struck again! There was no lightning that I could see, and that made no sense to me at all. To Google!   There it was in black and white, or white and black depending on your settings, I prefer dark mode. You cannot have thunder without lightning because thunder is the sound made when the superheated air is pushed away from the lightning. You can see lightning and not hear thunder the both opposite is impossible. You can have dry thunder and lightning if the air is very dry like in a desert. If this isn't thunder, then what the heck is it? I don't live near railroad tracks, or an airport. I don't even hear the highway from where I am.   This time it was so loud that the whole house shook rather violently. According to Google that's called a 'thunderquake' and it's just super violent thunder which I am not hearing because you can't have thunder without lightning. And another, it's getting louder and more violent. This time the power cuts off. I hold onto the window sill and watch as the whole house starts to fall away from the ground.

Yeah, I'd just jump out the window at that point.

I think that could be interesting, if done right.
