The Red Hideout Caves

A region on the continent encased by the ocean on the east side and the The Rocky Highlands on the west side, making it almost impossible to reach. There lives a small settlement of people that stranded there and then just continued to live and thrive there. The region technically belongs to the country of Declea but they haven't tried to reach that part of their territory since any mission towards there "mysteriously" failed. The region consists of a long beach on the eastern side towards the ocean and multiple cave systems that permeate the mountains to the west.

Demografie

Most of the people that live in the Red Hideout Caves came there by accident, either they got lost in one of the cave systems from the western side of the mountains, washed up on the beach after a ship wreck or storm or got abandoned in the mountains. Therefore the people there can consist of any race or species. Additionally they managed to build a relationship with a local Sirens clan that lives in the reef close to the beach, they trade with them and often come to visit.

Regierung

The settlement is run rather freely, they have a court of 15 people that decides over more important issues and is generally in charge of the proceedings of the village but there is no written law and no taxes. It is a community that runs on mutual trust and understanding.

Verteidigungsmaßnahmen

The Red Hideout Caves don't have any defense mechanisms aside from bushes and boulders they use to camouflage their existence. But even though Declea, the country they are located in, has send multiple troupes to investigate the mountains in search of resources, all the missions failed with either the people going missing or coming back injured without a memory of their time there. The people living there believe an old being resides in the mountain, turning anyone away who comes to the region with ill intent.

Industrie

The residents of the Red Hideout Caves sometimes trade with the sirens that live close to the region in underwater caves. Most of the time they trade fish, when they hunted too much for themselves, for things the sirens find at the bottom of the ocean in sunken ships, which sometimes are of great use to the people there or can be used as decoration at least.

Infrastruktur

The region is kept simple on the outside as to not alert any passing ships of the people that live there. In the cave systems themselves they build ladders to reach the caves higher of the ground, bridges to cross gaps, pillars made of wood to stabilize the caves as a precaution and installed collecting containers in places where water drips during rain as well as three wells to reach the water running under the stone to use as drinking water.

Architektur

The mountain consist to a large part of red sandstone on the inside of the cave with more grey stone on the outer layers at the side and the top of The Rocky Highlands.

Natürliche Ressourcen

On the north side of the beach a small forest can be found, the wood there is mostly used for constructing bridges and pillars as well as equipment like baskets, fishing rods, boats and spears for the hunt. They catch the fish around the beach, sometimes using traps to hunt the small animals living in the forest. They get their drinking water from the wells that reach toward the ground water or the catching tanks, the water is purified over fire.
