Château Montsombre
Purpose / Function
It was designed as a defensive structure, solely for war and it is the seat of the warlord of the Montsombre region.
Alterations
Before leaving the castle, Halt O'Carrick set fire to oily rag's in the keep tower, effectively destroying it. The stone walls wouldn't burn, but but floors and their support beams would. The ceilings and stairways would burn and collapse as well, and the heat would damage the walls potentially leading to their collapse.
Architecture
The castle is squat and powerful, with thick walls and heavy towers at each of the four corners. It's a dark, brooding, and forbidding structure. It is designed solely for defense. An iron gate guard's the path up towards the castle as an extra layer of defense, it also had a bell to alert the castle of anyone who approaches. The path it guards is allows for reasonable access by friendly forces, but preventing invaders from approaching in large numbers.
History
Throughout it's history it has been passed from ruler to ruler, Lord Deparnieux killed the previous lord of the castle, and won control of the castle as victor's spoils. Lord Deparnieux's rule was marked by cruelty, as was his predecessor's. He was known to use iron cage's to punish those who displeased him. Lord Philemon was gifted control over the castle by Halt O'Carrick after Lord Deparnieux's defeat on condition the caged prisoners were released, and the castle staff were allowed to leave if they chose to. Halt also destroyed the keep tower, which was the seat of Deparnieux's reign of terror.
