Medge
The Shield of Men has been in existence for centuries and uses their numbers to ensure a balance is struck among the mortals of Rastaag. They are often at odds with other groups that may use secrecy and subterfuge as a means of survival. The Shield of Men is not entirely a secret group but they do understand the necessity of discretion. A means of conveying important information for the Shield of Men in the Medge, a cypher used to encode texts among their members.
It can take months to learn how to write messages in Medge and the codex used in the creation of this cypher was broken into six pieces and spread amongst the ardors, the leading members of the group and the only ones whose identities are a secret. Since then copies have been made but no region or Bearing has more than one piece of the Medge codex. Members are required to travel to the different regions so that they are able to learn how the Medge works and how to write in this form. During the entire process they are able to attempt readings of text written in Medge as well.
No member of the group will share this information with anyone else. The Shield of Men have gone as far as integrating code into the Medge that if an individual attempts to convey how to understand the Medge they are physically and mentally unable to.
Members of the Shield of Men will often times write mundane notes or personal journals in Medge to give those seeking out secret information more documents to look through. This is used to provide more of a smoke screen for valuable information. This is also the reason that they hide some Medge texts and leave others in the open. The more a text is concealed does not blatantly equate to its value.
