"Sunhome—the stalwart shield, the towering sentinel, the seat of justice."
Overview
Sunhome, the Guildhall of the Boros on Ravnica, is a combined fortress, barracks, and place of worship. It is impregnable, serves as a symbol of military might, and is the base of operations for the League of Wojek. It is the seat of the Boros Legion's power and serves as a reminder to attackers from the north of the strength of Boros resolve.
Purpose
Sunhome has many uses for the
Boros Legion . Firstly, it serves as a massive fortress and command center that towers within the heart of
Precinct Four. This permanent structure ensures a foothold within Ravnica that no inside or outside force can defeat, cementing the security of the city and the Tenth District. Secondly, it provides room and board for the Boros as one of the largest barracks in Ravnica. Sunhome can house over 300,000 soldiers, of which nearly 70,000 are active troop members. Lastly, Sunhome provides a place of worship for the Boros and any Ravnican citizen of similar faith. There are four chapels, three of which are dedicated to
Heliod, God of the Sun, Iroas, God of Victory, and (WIP GOD). The last chapel is a general place of worship for any of the gods.
Defenses
Architecture
Sunhome is one of the most fortified and defensive areas anywhere on Ravnica. The location is built upon a large hilltop surrounded by thick stone and brick walls which slope upwards to help prevent scaling from enemies. These walls come with murder-holes and machicolations to fire down upon enemy forces. Towers are situated along the length of the walls for added defense and range and a place for sorcerers to cast spells from. A large gatehouse with a thick steel portcullis guarded the first entrance which led into a second set of walls known as an outer ward, or more commonly as a kill zone. At the center of Sunhome is the main command center, an impressively large tower that serves as the main barracks and living quarters for the high command. This tower, much like the walls, is also equipped with defensive capabilities meant to break the strongest of sieges.
Defenders
On the walls, Sunhome can provide thousands of trained archers to rain arrows down upon any infantry foolish enough to approach the walls. The archers are also supported by many ballistas for anti-air capabilities. Each tower is manned by clerics or sorcerers to rain down fireballs and other devastatingly offensive magics, but also to provide support and healing magic and counter-magic capabilities. Within the walls are Skorskal Giants, a clan of giants that have pledged themselves to fight for the Boros. These giants make excellent sentinels, keen-eyed and vigilant, and serve as living walls to protect smaller soldiers fighting alongside them.
Angels and Roc Riders allow for extra defense from the sky as well as offensive abilities to target vulnerable or valuable objectives in the attacker's lines.
Designated areas within Sunhome have been equipped with trebuchets for counter siege capabilities and as a way to break formations should the main army sally forth to meet the attackers head on. Should the attackers somehow make it through on top of or within the gates, the Izzet have designed conductors to charge empty sets of armor that give form to fluctuating elementals to attack foes of Boros.
The Parhelion
The first and last line of defense, The Parhelion II is a magical floating fortress that can provide invaluable support for Sunhome with its capabilities for both offense and defense. The fortress can act as a moving command center, reinforcing Sunhome with new defenders, and fire its intense rays of light to burn attackers into nothing but ash.
History
Sunhome was one of the first structures created by the Boros Legion. It served the same purpose then as it does now, only at the time it was a much more modest set of towers that overlooked a few buildings. Sunhome even has long forgotten roots in the Undercity, though these relics are obsolete and not relevant to surface city. Over the decades, as the Boros Legion grew in power, so too did Sunhome. It endured many sieges in its time and broke every single one of them. Sunhome has never been lost from the Boros for all its thousands of years of history. Every Parun of the Boros would construct their own personal touch to Sunhome with Aurelia's latest addition being the Parhelion and Parhelion II.
