Crypt Speakers

"I don't mind the followers of the Phantom Maiden, but the one thing that creeps me out about them are their morticians. They're almost as pale as the dead they tend to. They're rail thin like they starve themselves to the point of near death. And I swear every time I see them tending to a body they're speaking to them."   ~ Unknown Guar

Public Agenda

The Crypt Speakers don't broadcast their skills publicly, but those that work closely with the deceased will interact with them occasionally. If close enough the individual will see the Crypt Speaker utilizing their skills to ensure the spirit was prepared for their transition to the afterlife.

History

The Crypt Speaker sect of the Phantom Maidens church was founded during the Age of War. The original teachings that set the foundation for their beliefs and skills came from the former God of death whose name has been struck from history. Once they were felled and Morrigan became the Goddess of Death her followers scoured through the abandoned temples of this begotten God to scour all the knowledge they could. Through their research it was discovered the previous devotees to this God had the ability to manipulate the spirits into service or siphon the last vestiges of their lifeforce to keep themselves young.   Morrigan forbade any practices that harmed the natural order or violated the integrity of spirits so the current findings discovered were useless. But others saw this as the foundation for spells that could assist a spirit in finding peace in the afterlife or how to communicate with spirits beyond the veil. As the war on Aedran raged restless spirits flooded Morrigan’s palace causing restlessness amongst the spirits that called the palace home. The first Crypt Speakers, armed with their new founded divine magics, pilgrimed throughout the world putting what spirits they could to rest before they departed to the afterlife.
