Mantle of Gloom

"He will blot out the sun eternally. The choir will fall silent and the silence will be eternal. With the death of the Marshal he shall gain his throne. Praise be the Archangel of the Dying Sun. Praise be the Angel of Decay. Praise be the end of light."   ~ Sermon to the Rotten

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Mantle of Gloom gives off an aura that bolsters the wearers allies whilst demoralizing enemies. Lights are less effective when the wearer of this mantle is near by lowering open flames to mere embers.   When in conflict the wearer can make the mantle turn into a pair of leathery wings allowing the individual the ability to fly. If in conflict with an individual faithful to the Dawn Marshal it makes it harder for the individual to call upon their powers.

History

The Mantle of the Gloom's first appearance was during the assault of the Cave Light Cathedral in Vurndorul. The main knight of the assault wore the dark mantle and fought with strength not seen by any other adversary.   Since its appearance the Mantle of Gloom has been a rallying banner for the followers of the Archangel of the Dying Sun. The mantle remained in the possession of the initial knight for three years before their demise at the hands of Soone. When Soone attempted to recover the cloak it rapidly decayed along with the body of the knight.   The current barer of the mantles identity is unknown, but it is known that there is an individual wears the mantle.

Significance

The Mantle of Gloom is one of the artifacts created by Deacon, the Archangel of the Dying Sun. The Mantle of Gloom is seen by the Rotten and Heralds as a sign that Deacon has chosen that individual specifically to lead his crusade. It is considered the most powerful and sacred artifact.
