Dwellings in Duralon
Duralon is also called the whitewashed land, for nearly every dwelling large or small is covered in pristine white. You'd think the excessive perfection would give the inhabitants illusions of godhood, but the population is surprisingly humble. They don't even mind if you steal their spoons. They just gossip about how poor you are. Seriously, there's a traveler who is forever immortalized in folklore as the spoon spinster. Very scary campfire story.
These days though you might get away with stealing spoons altogether. The words whispered over ale or tea are all of a curse put on Duralon timber by an angry sorceress. It used to be that only wood from the old forest would rot prematurely, but as the decade creeped by all timber from anywhere began to do the same. It is commonplace now that new houses collapse to the foundation every spring, while old houses are sound as stone.
In the lack of answers, most have decided to blame a curse by the sorceress in the old forest. Poorer families have begun camping throughout the spring and summer and throwing up a sheltering structure just for winter storms. Old abandoned homes are being moved into, even fought over. The roof may leak but at least it stays put. Anger against all forms of magic is rising with each shelterless storm.
Purpose / Function
The purpose of a home is normally to shelter a family from weather and bandits, but at the rate the homes in fall down they are safer outside. At least the homes look good when whitewashed. For some reason, wood refuses to stand strong for builders in Durashat. Every year the new homes fall down in the spring.
The older wooden homes stay standing just fine.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
